As more press conferences conclude at this year's E3, the news, trailers, previews, interviews and so on start to trickle out online - and I start to form my initial opinions on the announcements and so on. Perhaps you do too. Feel free to use this topic to post any links you find that might be of interest, talk about what things excited - or failed to excite you - from this year's E3. You can certainly talk Star Wars games here (though there is a TOR topic elsewhere as well), but this topic is for general use on ANY games.
I'll admit I've personally got some bias. X-Box 360 with Kinect is the system in my house, so much of my interest falls there (though I've owned various Nintendo and Sony products over time, including the Wii, DS, PS2, and PSP to name some recent ones from those companies). Yesterday was of great interest to me, and while it may have a number of detractors, I thought most of what was shown for Kinect looked really great.
I've seen/heard a lot of people down on Kinect Star Wars - I think it looks great. It looks like the perfect use of Kinect, putting the player right in the action. It seems like it's going to have a story that parallels the prequels, which makes sense since it allows for a tie-in to not only the re-release of The Phantom Menace but also with The Clone Wars TV show. Disneyland Adventures looked like fun for this Disney nut and his kids, heck even Kinect Sports season 2 looked interesting (and I'm not a sports guy) - but that looked like a Kinect version of Hot Shots Golf in there! Those Kinect Labs demos were pretty cool as well - I'm gonna have to download that. I think my kids are gonna love the idea of scanning in real life items into the game world.
I desperately need to play Mass Effect (1 and/or 2) before Mass Effect 3 comes out - because from that preview, I wants it. The Kinect features remind me of SOCOM's headset - without the headset - awesome. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Warrior and Ryse both bear watching due to the Kinect features as well (for me).
I loved the original Tomb Raider, and played a number of the sequels, but none were ever quite as good - but this new one caught my eye. I believe this is the one that's revisiting an idea that one of the original creators had years ago - drop Lara Croft on an "open ended" island adventure and let the player go at it (ok, it's more like a Metroid-type exploration game, meaning no levels).
Another potential family one for my house is Disney Universe - though it may be dependant on which of the two Disney games the kids seem more interested in (this one or Disneyland Adventures).
Ok, the one that's thrown me for a loop (so far) is the Wii U. Really? So we're doing the touch-pad second screen thing again? Didn't Nintendo try this once before, making the GBA a controller for the Gamecube? So this is a dumbed down iPad? We're going to have a bigger/better screen on our console controller than on our portable system? Not doing it for me.
And the Playstation Vita. Man you just can't make this stuff up. Imagine yourself going into your local game store and saying out loud to the guy behind the counter that you'd like to purchase a Wii U and Playstation Vita. Sony should have poured it's efforts into Xperia Play (truly making that the NGPSP). I'm not saying this Vita is a bad device, but it could have been a contender in the more adult space both against Nintendo and Apple. Instead we've got what - the games equivalent of the Kindle? It needs a data plan, but can't do voice? The Xperia Play I'm considering as my next phone (basically a PSPGo with phone capabilities), but this one... no thanks. I require consolidation in my handheld devices nowadays, and this is going in the wrong direction (for me).
