Love the idea behind this movie. Will likely be a "must-see".

Not so sure on the plausibility. Gonna go to wiki for some reference, but this should give anyone interested in doing more research a slightly better path to go down.

First, these are how many Saturn V rockets were made (if we're talking Apollo 18, we're talking Saturn V as the ONLY rocket capable of getting men to the moon):

So that's potentially good right - TWO unused rockets... except:

Saturn V displays

 

A Saturn V on display at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama before its move indoors at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration.One at the Johnson Space Center made up of first stage from SA-514, the second stage from SA-515 and the third stage from SA-513 (replaced for flight by the Skylab workshop). With stages arriving between 1977 and 1979, this was displayed in the open until its 2005 restoration when a structure was built around it for protection. This is the only display Saturn consisting entirely of stages intended to be launched.

 

One at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex made up of S-IC-T (test stage) and the second and third stages from SA-514. It was displayed outdoors for decades, then was enclosed for protection from the elements in 1996.

 

Two at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville:

-Horizontal display made up of S-IC-D, S-II-F/D and S-IVB-D. These were all test stages not meant for flight. This vehicle was displayed outdoors for decades (there is a poignant photo above of Wernher von Braun next to it), was restored, and is now displayed in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

-Vertical display (replica) built in 1999 located in an adjacent area

 

The S-IC stage from SA-515 is on display at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

The S-IVB stage from SA-515 was converted for use as a backup for Skylab, and is on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C..

Now, that seems to cover the two unused rockets... but you'll also notice there are more displays than unused Saturn V rockets. So, obviously they were able to create displays out of other components, which kind of brings me back to my original purpose in looking at this info in the first place. If you want to figure out if it's possible for Apollo 18 to have flown, you first need to figure out how many Saturn V rockets were built, and then how many were used and can be accounted for in displays.

(I'm avoiding the whole issue of people remembering a launch - it's possible since launches happen all the time for the public to have not realized - though I understand the Saturn V launches were unlike anything else because of the power of those rockets, still - I'm willing to go with this as possible).
