No word on who he's playing or whether he's a villain or not. The Death Star: So Named Because Living On It Means Almost Certain Death.

And that's all it confirms, because they won't tell us who the character is, or who some of the auditioning actresses are. But, there are only a handful of female characters that it can be, right? Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Talia Ah'Ghul, Vicky Vale, one of the various Batgirls, Batwoman, Renee Montoya... or someone new. And managed to almost scour all traces of the controversy surrounding her from the internet? Posts: 13966 Oct 28 10 12:46 AM	Julie Madison. Played by Rachel McAdams. Yeah, I totally visited the future. Well, apart from wishful thinking on my part, it could feasibly be the character of Julie Madison. I was also going to suggest Leslie Thompkins, but I doubt that character would be the female lead as she is more or less the female Alfred (in an ultra-crude nutshell). Regarding the Riddler not being on board.... I can see the (positive) outcomes of this, but man I had my heart set on him and his rather snazzy question-marked outfit of which I am jealous because I would never look as cool wearing that as he does. I was really intrigued to see how Nolan would handle him, as I think he's up there with the Joker and Scarecrow as villains who really match Batman's mind and intellect. Now, with confirmation of Riddler's omission, I have my heart set on either Hugo Strange or the Calendar Man (but the Hannibal Lector version of Calendar Man, not the Snidley Whiplash one). I think we'd really get a clue as to who it could be if we knew the theme(s) of Batman 3 (which I am not prepared to call Dark Knight Rises juuuust yet). Batman Begins was about fear and so we got the Scarecrow and League of Shadows. The Dark Knight was about escalation and entropy so we got Joker and Two-Face. Until we know the theme of Batman 3 (which is how Nolan seems to work on his films as opposed to "Let's pick the hero and villain first") I don't think a lot of people (myself included) can adequately guess the villain(s). Plus, Strange and Calendar Man aren't as well known to the general masses if at all, and they haven't shown up in films yet, so it could be really invigorating and interesting.

So, if Batman Begins is about Fear (and Corruption), and The Dark Knight is about Escalation and Entropy, what do you think is the natural progession/conclusion of the arc? TDK ended with Batman (in the eyes of Gotham City) on the run as a villain, believed to be a cop killer and the man who murdered Harvey Dent whom most people saw as the city's saviour. The theme of redemption would fit with Batman being redeemed (probably even cleared) of these crimes and being seen as the true hero of Gotham by the people of the city. It also fits with the title The Dark Knight Rises.

Posts: 13966 Nov 1 10 12:52 AM	Azrael, Hush, Black Mask and Catwoman could all feasibly fit into a story with the overarching theme of redemption. And of the three males listed there, all of them also easily fit snugly into Nolan's comments about how this will focus a lot on Bruce Wayne. Technically, the same could be said for a story with Catwoman in it.

Posts: 13966 Nov 1 10 8:36 PM	Depends on the story. Sometimes he knows Selina = Catwoman, other times he does not. Sometimes it is just Batman & Catwoman, sometimes it is Batman and Catwoman as well as Bruce and Selina. As I said, it depends.

Posts: 5917 Nov 11 10 5:50 PM	Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz are among actresses that have met with Nolan for what is being said to be TWO female leads... Bruce Wayne's romantic interest and a female villain. I'd say Lively is out of contention by default -- regardless of the DC movies being unconnected, her already being the female lead in Green Lantern makes me think WB wouldn't use her in two different superhero films that are released only a year apart. Posts: 530 Nov 14 10 2:41 PM	Interesting list. I'm with Nom - Rachel Weisz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman would be fantastic. She'd be a good Talia as well (if Nolan goes in that direction, but I'm really hoping for Catwoman) As for Bruce's love interest, I'd love to see Vicki Vale. The comics have recently done a story where she's been working out the identities of all Gotham's heroes (I won't say more as the story only concluded last month), but I think that type of story could really fit into the final film, with Vale coming to Gotham to investigate the viligante turned murderer and maybe suspecting there's something more to Gotham's billionaire playboy as she gets closer to him. I'd like to see Keira Knightley as Vale, but I'd be just as happy with Natalie Portman. I don't know anything about Naomi Watts, so I can't judge her, I'm hoping that Anne Hathaway gets Lois Lane so I'm not saying her for purely selfish reasons (nice to know she's on Nolan's radar though!) and Blake Lively I'd rule out because she's in Green Lantern. Sure she could do both, but I just find it unlikely she'd be the leading lady in 2 DC movies. Ryan Reynolds may be both Hal and Deadpool but at least one's DC and one's Marvel. What Nolan wants, I'm sure Nolan will get (he's certainly earned it), but I'm guessing WB/DCE would prefer one (or two) of the other women on the list. I've nothing to judge her acting on so I can't really say more than that.

IIRC the Hush storyline relied heavily on Dick Grayson and his storyline that had been building up over many years. I think it would be odd to introduce Hush without any type of back story from the first two movies.

Watts, Weisz, and Cotillard seem like they'd be up for one, slightly older character -- they're all 30-40 year old Oscar calibur actresses. The other character I'd say is younger - the Portman/Knightly/Perabo/Hathaway/Lively/Phoenix role. Trouble is, I can't figure out which role would be which. The younguns all seem TOO young to fill either role, while I can easily see the older ones fill both. The Death Star: So Named Because Living On It Means Almost Certain Death.
