In Defense of…Who shot first? by Dancelittleewok, on May 15, 2010, at 11:00 pm. Category: In Defense Of, Original Trilogy Era, Regular Features. Star Wars has not been without controversy even from its beginning, whether it be Luke and Leia’s kiss or the destruction of Alderaan. Lucas ruined that scene when he made the special edition. When I first saw the film, it showed that Han was an umitigated badass. When I watch the SE now, that element is completely gone. That one scene set Han's character and it was subsequently ruined.
Actually, Han shooting second makes him a better character. It's just that the special effects utilized to make him shoot second were shoddy, so the scene looks dumb. If they clean it up and make it believeable for the next DVD release, I think a lot of complaints about Han no longer being a cold-blooded killer will fade away.
