I'm waiting for Allston to say in an interview, "No, Denning is just a huge Lovecraft fan. The tentacles are figurative."

So what if Abeloth is a Rakatan? She seems to be trapped in the Maw, an oddly large cluster of black holes which seem to have been arranged by the Celestials. Maybe she was captured by the Celestials during the war and imprisoned there. That would also make Abeloth a being from the Uknown Regions. Whether she is a Rakatan, an ally of the Rakatans, or some dark side being the called forth, who knows.
