I would put the new direction already in book 6 in LotF... And considering how badly the slow, slow start of LotF was received (not that what followed was that
great or well received either) I hazard a guess that they might bring forth the stage where the build-up ends and the "real" action starts. So,
instead of Books 1-4 being build-up, book 5 the turning point, books 6-9 the "main" plot of the series towards which everything else was looking
forward, I think that FotJ might take another route. Or perhaps not, as it's usually best to count DR to do the expected, so I'm probably too
optimistic thinking that they would change things from LotF to FotJ in this regard.

I think that Luke and Ben's Journey will not end until the 7th or 8th book.
Here is my theory: Luke and Ben's trip will include the groups on Nom's list but instead of the groups from Ossus there will be Theran listeners In my opinion from what we see of Jacen use after his trip he seems to mention or use this quite a bit. Also from FotJ 1 and 2 we have noticed that each one of the "affected" people display one of Jacen's skills or traits and the people of Ossus do not really have a trait. Other than that I thought the list was great. And with that great of an ending it makes me wonder how I could possibly not think of Zonma Sekot. I think the end of Luke's journey will be in book 7 or 8, probably in 8. I predict a closing fight with Luke and Ben against some unknown force user. They will win then return to Courascant only to find every one there rushing off or in the middle of another huge battle. Luke and Ben will help win that battle and be allowed to return. The only thing I wonder is if Luke will even make it back from his journey. In that fight I predicted in book 8 what if Luke dies and Ben beats whoever they were fighting? It is a possibility....

Of course, FotJ could end not just in another Invincible, but in a situation where things are left even more open. I do think that the chance of Luke and
junior being still out on their journey when FotJ #9 ends in a non-ending might be small, but probably still in the realms of possibility, even if just and
just.

I'd say ben would return. But perhaps Luke may decide that it's time for him to go all Yoda and vanish from the galaxy at large.

Hmm I actually like this idea. I love Luke and the novels wouldn't be the same without him - I'd much prefer this to his death - he could still appear every now and again but be outside the main groups.. perhaps even setting up a small Jedi School out somewhere remote - following the Yoda route and spending the later years of his life teaching a new generation - but still able to kick some ass when the need arises. and yes before you jump on that I know he's does that to some degree but the whole Grand Master of the Order business has tied him down in bureaucracy and politics. Much as I disliked the Black Fleet crisis books I loved the way Luke built himself a sanctuary and retreated (however briefly) from the galaxy at large He hasn't necessarily got to leave coruscant for that - just appoing a head of the council (as Mace Windu was) and step back a bit. |

That is a good idea but I think if Luke dies in FotJ it will be in a battle. But if Luke dies a more peaceful Yoda type death my guess is he will die in a
stand alone very special novel.

I'm not sure on Luke dying in either a series or stand alone. I think it would be more probably if he were to die either in action or peacefully in a
series for I think people would be more surprised, as opposed to a special stand alone novel featuring an older Luke Skywalker. As for him taking the back seat
and being a more Yoda like, I'd certainly like that for it would hopefully give more screentime to the younger generation that have so far been painfully
neglected.

There's one thing going for a stand-alone novel where Luke Skywalker dies: Far more people would buy it than one that is part of a series. Buying a novel
that is part of a series would demand more commitment, as to be able to know the whole story you would have to buy more than one novel.
A stand-alone novel about old Luke Skywalker in his last fight that ends in his death one way or other, with the novel having a plot that doesn't demand knowledge of the Expanded Universe, would be easier for people to make the decision to buy it. Unlike if the novel's cover texts would tell that it is the "book 3 in the bestselling Fate of the Jedi -series, which continues the story of the bestselling 9 book Legacy of the Force -series..." And you could advertise a stand-alone novel in the covers and adverts as "The Last Fight of Luke Skywalker" unlike in a series, where you probably couldn't do that without making the Expanded Universe fans angry for spoiling the main event of the novel.

That's another thing- I don't see Luke dying anywhere near the beginning of the series- I see it happening (If it were to say, be a new 9 book series)
in Books 8, with the Jedi then scrambling to fight rising odds, or at the end in Book 9 in a blaze of glory. I would think this would be more possible because
I can see them wanting to surprise the hell out of fans and make the series that more of an impact.

I would love it if in Fate of the Jedi, not one character, that consistently appears and is known, dies and then in the last novel someone big is
finally taken down, or sacrifices himself. It would seem more climactic, I believe. And besides...I am so tired of people dying in every novel. I was very
happy that nobody died in Outcast, too.

If Luke is to be killed off it should be in a standalone hardcover by Matt Stover not in a series especially FOTJ since he wants to write Luke's and Han
and Leia's final adventure. Or perhaps the Big 3's adventure finale by Stover could be a hardcover trilogy and I heard on TF.N's literature message
boards that Sue Rostoni said there might be a trilogy set after FOTJ and not another 9-book series. But things could change.

I am guessing that someone fairly important dieing in the next 1 or 2 books. I am guessing a master maybe Ciagal or Kyp or even Daala. though it could be
another.

Can we take this to it's own thread?
I don't want the "who dies" thing to be the latest in the long line of topics to unnecessarily take over other threads, like "is Jacen evil" or "Jag or Zekk" did.

Also, what happened to my poor thread? A thank you to Max for ^^^ steeeering things back. |

ANDY 000 wrote:I would love that. There are so many possibilities for Luke and Ben's journey, it's almost impossible to anticipate. I sort of feel like everything hinges on what they find in the Maw cluster, as that seems to be a) where the Madness is originating from, and b) where Jacen went after the Aing-Tii and possibly began his journey to Sithdom (or, rather, his "final journey," as some would argue that he first embarked on this path during the events of TRAITOR). I recall one blurb or another mentioning that Jacen may have woken some dark entity during his visit there. If there's going to be some nefarious retcon about how Jacen fell (and I can sorta feel one coming) then ABYSS would probably be the ideal novel to introduce it in. I say it all depends on what happens in ABYSS. My guess is that the Maw stop-off will only give them a piece of the puzzle so that it becomes necessary for Luke and Ben to continue on for another novel or two.

The Dathomiri Witches are my all time favorite Force Group...and second only to the Hapans as my favorite society. If we got a book detailing their way of life like we did for the Hapans in DJ and Tempest, I'd be so excited. Especially if it drew Tenel Ka and Allana into the mix and explained whatever happened to Augwynne Djo. Daala Count- 20 and counting and Hapans Rule All!
