LOL at Iurus. This should just be labelled the "Official Omen discussion thread (spoilers)."
*And can I start this off by pointing out just how worried I am that Vestara is EXACTLY THE SAME AGE AS BEN. I smell a relationship that makes me sour, and I also don't like that I think Del Rey will do EXACLTY THIS. *On the upside, this novel has the return of SHIP, who is so badass we just call it Ship. And reading about how he gives the One Sith the slip and rocks up at the doorstep of Lost Sith (who are much more primordial and primevil Sith), and what he says to Vestara.... I'm convinced... Ship is like the Artoo-Detoo of the Sith. *This book also has fricken JYSELLA HORN. CANON AGE FOR JYSELLA HORN. This smacks of brilliant executive decisions. And I also noted in that same excerpt that Jysella reminsces about ALLANA (or rather, Amelia) and how her friend that JEDI GAMORREAN gives her piggy-backs (no pun intended). This is also quite a brilliant touch, and it sort of implies that he's been a member of the Order for quite a few years. Also, given that he is like, BEST FRIENDS FOREVER with the Horns and that Bothan, this also leans towards that theory. Which brings up a whole slew of questions regarding just how this Gamorrean gained an affinity for the Force. I'm assuming it was just random, but its interesting that he's like... the complete OPPOSITE of everythig Gamorrean (except Piggy). This begs for further analysis. Though I will reject the name "The Unit." Makes them sound like a secret high-tech crime-busting organisation or something. |

I wanted it clear that excerpts should come here as well, as they're not generally considered spoilers (we've been talking about one for a couple
months now).

I'll also point out that when I was avoiding all spoilers - reviews were a complete no-no for me. There's way too much chance that a reviewer is going to spoil something from the book. I'd actually be ok with excerpts being in the other thread (since they're officially released and can be read by anyone) but reviews I think belong in a spoiler topic. But that's just my opinion.

Which excerpts would these be? Can they be posted in this thread?

One in Outcast and one in Precipice (the latter being the catalyst for the thread).

I found a rather short and not very specific review of Omen at Genre Go Round Reviews -blog. (The same
review, occasionally in a shorter form, is widely available on the web.)
There are some spoilers, the sort of that probably make some people here unhappy, and I gather the vague description of how the actual plot of the series advances (slowly, I think I can put it here) might have a similar effect. As I don't know if they can be put here, I just suggest that those who want to read the spoilers follow the link.

I don't see any spoilers in it...
This is how twenty-five millenia come to a close. Corruption and treachery have crushed a thousand years of peace. This is not just the end of a
republic; night is falling on civilisation itself.

Actually, that above review was posted here by ME, I originally got it from Barnes and Noble. I think it may have been slightly reworded frm where you got it
on Genre Go Round though.
I mean... seriously, I only posted it a couple of weeks ago, Rouge. Life your game! LOL |

BE WARNED - THIS TOPIC IS NOW IN THE SPOILER SECTION
THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, now that we've got a spoiler forum... Who wants to be spoiled? Ask away. You've got three people on staff from NJOE who've already read Omen (myself, corax, and Iurus), plus x-wingurly who knows what we know (though she hasn't actually read the book). We can spoil the hell out of you, we can give hints, we can give some of our thoughts (though you'll see full reviews from us in the coming weeks as part of the content on the main page).

Ah - going for the jugular - THE biggest Spoiler of all.
I thought it was very appropriate, and found the scene funny since I (at least) 'got it' before Jaina did. It seemed very in-character to me for how Jag is. It's short, it's near the end of the novel, and there's not much more to talk about, since no one else (as of the end of Omen) yet knows - not because they're keeping it a secret, just because it literally happens so close to the end of the book. But I'm more than pleased by this development, as like many people, I've wanted to see them together since Dark Tide.

A bunch of questions from an embarassed oaf
So it's a cliffhanger and Jaina's answer isn't told? Have the Aing-tii been worth waiting? Do they stand up in skills and knowledge to the Jedi (or supercede them) as personified by Luke and Ben, or do they play in the lower Force leagues? Who is the flow-walking Jedi and do her/his action make sense when it comes to what we know of flow-walking? And does it make Jacen's flow-walking less impressive? Does Daala appear more likely to be a major villain in the series after this? (Or a true villain at all.) Anything about Confederation and the unification talks? Is the Centerpoint/Kessel -subplot from Outcast continued in any form?
