Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to that!  I can't see the show lasting 10 years like Smallville has, but at least it has the potential to bring Wonder Woman back into the public eye.  If the TV series does well it certainly helps the chances of a movie getting made.

The only part I'm nervous about is the "corporate executive" angle, but then who would have thought a young Superman show could go 10 years on the motto "no flights, no tights"?  Sure the rule is now past it's sell by date, but the show returns for it's final 11 episodes next Friday, so all the rules will soon be broken... as the new posters say "Destiny in NOW"!

I'm really happy with the choice.  As much as I love Smallville I didn't want Tom Welling in the role (simply because if Tom's Superman then I'd want Erica as Lois and Michael as Lex and they'd never do that).

He's been in my top 2 for a while (along with Brandon Routh who I thought deserved another shot).  Over at SuperHeroHype they were doing manips of potential Superman candidates and it was this picture that sold me;

LA Times is reporting that WB is planning a Justice League movie in 2013 to follow 2012's The Dark Knight Rises and Superman: The Man of Steel!! No details on the possible plot, but the article does say it's a new script (so not the old Justice League: Mortal script or the previously rumoured no Superman/Batman version).

The article goes on to say that WB are also having scripts written for Flash (presumably a new script) and Wonder Woman, which could be spun off from Justice League.

Where does this fit with the new Wonder Woman TV series? Well it seems WB has finally got some sense! Batman Begins may have cancelled Bruce Wayne before it began and created a "Bat-embargo" for all the animated series, but those days seem to be behind us as Robinov says "Wonder Woman could be a film as well, the same way that ‘Superman Returns’ came out while ‘Smallville’ was on"

And how about Batman? Could Nolan's Batman make the leap from his "real" world to the DCU? Yes and no seems to be the answer. The article quotes Robinov as saying "we’ll have to reinvent Batman" but that "Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is".

To me that says that Nolan will probably help come up with the story and then take a back seat once a new director has been found (similar to Snyder and Superman). A semi-reboot that uses Nolan's trilogy as an origin, but then moves the character closer to the comics so that he can appear with the other DC heroes in a JLA movie. Then again, with JLA said to be coming in 2013, this reinvention may need to take place sooner than any possible Batman 4.

Which reminds me of an old rumour from a year or two ago. It claimed that Christopher Nolan would be "godfathering" Superman (which turned out to be true), and then help establish a direction for DC movies and help other DC characters make the transition to film (I believe there was mention of him possibley having some limited involvement in GL to help it match up with the overall direction he planned, but nothing came of that rumour). But the rumour also claimed that after Batman 3 he would then move on to direct a JLA movie.

At the time this rumour was pretty much dismissed (apart from the Superman part, which was backed up by several sources) due to Nolan's stance on Batman being in his own world and his plan for Superman was also that he was the "only hero". But since Nolan has stepped back slightly from Superman, and Robinov is now claiming that Nolan will be involved (at least in some capacity) in reinventing Batman, presumabley with the goal of intergrating him into the DC Movie Universe, it does seem possible that Nolan could step up to the JLA.

After all, if WB are going to create a shared universe based on 3 films that he directed and another that he produced (and only 1 he wasn't involved with), then this would give him the chance to create the shared universe on his terms. And who else would WB trust with this project? Who else could they trust?

Well the wording they used is reinvent, not reboot.  Nolan's trilogy isn't going anywhere (and neither is Nolan from the sound of it).

Think of it like this;

Nolan's trilogy = Year One/Batman: The Animated Series (early years, Batman was the only hero except a few appearances by Robin and Batgirl)
Re-Invention = DCU Batman/The New Batman Adventures (established Batman, other heroes like Superman, etc.)

They could do a full reboot (like Spider-Man) but the article never implies this and it wouldn't make sense for two main reasons;
1) It makes no sense to go back to beginning when they want to move forward with JLA
2) More importantly the Batman franchise is huge and starting over could ruin that.  There is nothing in the films that says that Nolan's Batman couldn't become the DCU Batman a few years down the line.  Just move forward a few years, slightly different tone/look (reinvented as they say) and build on what's already established.

The way I look at the DC Movie Universe chronology is this;

Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises
Batman's first year (maybe two, depends on TDKR) At this point Batman is the only hero (which keeps the integrity of the character established by Nolan in the movies)

Fast Forward a few years and you get Superman's debut in Metropolis
Superman: The Man of Steel
Green Lantern
Justice League of America
GL2, Wonder Woman, Flash, any future Superman/Batman sequels

I've put Man of Steel before GL as (at the moment) it seems like being an origin movie, and even though the cameo has been cut Clark Kent was going to be in Green Lantern meaning the film was written from the POV that Superman already existed in this universe.  Superman being the first super hero also fits with Nolan/Snyder's comments that they seen him as the only super hero in Man of Steel (this can work with Batman as he's more an urban myth character and not a super hero at this point).  Plus I like the idea of Superman being the first super hero of this "Silver Age of Heroism".

Wonder Woman and Flash could go before JLA even though they spin out of it.  Just depends if they're done as sequels or as prequels/origin movies.
