Listen, I'm not telling other people not to buy hardcovers - knock yourself out. For many reasons, I gave up buying hardcovers years ago (literally, the last Star Wars hardcover I bought was Star by Star, a book I threw down in disgust when Anakin died). Why for? 1. After years of being mostly dissappointed with paying much more for a hardcover and finding the story less interesting than softcovers, I had had enough. Death Star would be a good example of a recent novel I'd have been highly annoyed at purchasing as a hardcover. Now, having borrowed it from the library, I didn't feel as bad reading a novel I didn't really enjoy. 2. That whole matching library thing - yeah, with so many softcovers that will never be available as hardcovers, I'd rather have them all match that way. Plus, they take up less space. 3. For the price of a hardcover I can get 3-4 softcovers, or 2 TPB comics. Considering my library gets every hardcover within two weeks of release, and never gets any softcovers - which one do you think gets my priority for purchasing (and lets add into this the fact that I also enjoy Trek novels, none of which ever seem to get bought by my library). So honestly, it's great news for me that more and more Star Wars novels are coming out in hardcover - it's less and less Star Wars novels I'll actually be buying. I'll have more money to spend elsewhere, while I borrow those hardcovers from my library. "In the time immediately following the destruction of the Death Star and the years between the Battle of Yavin and the foundation of the Rebel Base on Hoth, the Empire's grip on the galaxy has become an unyielding fist of retribution. Pressed into action by Emperor Palpatine, Imperial forces have stepped up efforts to hunt down and imprison Rebel sympathizers, shipping them off to newly formed detainment moons via huge prison barges. By necessity these barges are floating chambers of degradation and vice, notoriously unreliable spacecraft staffed by Imperial corrections officers whose cruelty rivals that of the inmates. The Imperial Prison Barge Virtue is hauling its load of prisoners, criminals and murderers, human and non-human, across the galaxy, when it breaks down in deep space. Soon after, the ship's warden discovers a derelict Star Destroyer, seemingly abandoned, and sends a boarding party to scavenge parts to repair the Virtue. Half of them don't come back. The ones that do are infected with a virus so deadly that within hours, it has wiped out ninety-nine percent of the barge's population. But for the handful of survivors - two brothers, the Virtue's female chief medical officer, and a sadistic captain of the guards, along with a certain rogue smuggler and his Wookiee sidekick - the true horror is just begun. Because those inmates and guards who died of the virus don't stay dead...and when they come back, they're extremely hungry. Against their better judgment, the survivors take refuge aboard the massive creaking emptiness of the Destroyer, only to discover that its original population has not disappeared at all - and that they've been waiting for them." Perhaps one or two of those other survivors can also be alive when the novel ends. I quite expected this to end in the deaths of all persons involved. What comes to Vector, I am not sure whether these can be connected. When did the Rebellion Vector arc happen chronologically? 1 or 2 ABY? If it's an Imperial, it deserves to die.

I also find it hard to believe Han and Chewie wind up on a prison transport in this time period, and this begs the question as to why someone (Luke, Leia, Alliance LEADERS) are not you know, staging a prison break... I think something fishy is going on here. On the other hand.... STAR WARS ZOMBIES ZOMG AWESOME

But with that word there I can't really believe in other possibilities. If it's an Imperial, it deserves to die.
