My statement is based off my own opinion on the book (which I've since updated with a disclaimer, since I guess it wasn't clear), and the fact that Escape from Dagu was canceled because it apparently sucked. Like, Crystal Star level of suckage. So there's certainly precedent for my thoughts.

Blood Oath was a novel that I looked towards far more than whole of FotJ. Not that I like Hapes, on the contrary, but because I have grown somewhat fond of Zekk and his apparent resurrection was to be a positive turn in the otherwise bleak delreyverse that has become a killing field of characters.

Perhaps Del Rey has what they believe to be a higher standard when it comes to their books, given that Bantam had some real clunkers like Crystal Star and Children of the Jedi. I know there are plenty of Del Rey novels that fans don't like for whatever reason, but the only three Star Wars novels that it was ever a chore for me to read simply due to syntax were all from the Bantam era. Shatterpoint was the first Clone Wars book, but certainly not the last. And the argument that it focused on someone other than the Anakin/Obi-Wan dynamic (which, as I recall, was what was thrown around following the lackluster sales of Stover's book) doesn't really work, as the duo didn't appear in the Medstar duology, which was released after Shatterpoint.

And there must have been an extraordinary event in the universe somewhere, because I agree with you (). I, too, was looking forward to Zekk and his reappearance. But the events of Escape from Dagu still canonically happened, so fans of Zekk shouldn't fret because he's most likely still around.
