What could DelRey do to make you feel better about FOTJ? |

So everyone's got all these concerns, these big opinions about everything that LOTF supposedly went wrong. What would it take (realistically) from DelRey
to make you feel better about the new series? What could they say they'll focus on or do differently?

I have my pet peeves, but overall:
- They could promise that there will be no important characters or subplots that are used by just one author. - Both the main plot(s) and all the subplots in the series will be concluded in a satisfying manner. - They could promise to give us unambiguous answer to the final fate of Jacen. - They could give us the Force Ghost of either Anakin (or preferably both) which was already pretty much promised for LotF. (And Jacen's too.) Those, if I can't have my resurrections... |

Not that I'm worried but I'd like to see a re-committment to the original feeling of Star Wars. The light comedy tinged with drama if you will. Darker,
deeper storylines aren't necessarily bad but I think it's time to re-affirm the roots of Star Wars.
You know, its kind of sad that if I were to mention the discussions that go on here to somebody in the real world, they would call me crazy as well as
obsessive and a complete geek/nerd/whatever. Then I come here and discover that I'm way out of my league. Especially when people recall details that I
don't even remember....

I agree with Iron Fist in that getting in touch with the old feel of Star Wars is a must in the long haul. Killing your brother simply is not "Star
Wars", as dramatic as it is. There could've been plenty of ways to involve Jaina in the death of Jacen, but her physically being the one to plunge the
lightsaber through his heart crossed a line somwhere. I didn't think it would phase me as much as it did.
Short term fixes would include: -Jacen (not Caedus) appearing to Jaina as a Force Ghost. This would serve to clarify Jacen's fate, and allow that storyline to be laid to rest once and for all. It doesn't even have to be something terrible long or in-depth; Mara's appearances to Ben and Luke in Revelation were perfect, IMO, and allowed me closure for her story. It's just gotta be super-emotional. I want the twin angle to be the most important part of Jacen appearing to Jaina. -The Daala thing... guh. I don't even know how you can fix this. It's not the fact that Daala came into power that bothers me, it's the fact that Denning couldn't come up with any better excuse other than "She's the only one everyone could agree on." This is just going to be something that will always be a thorn in my side, and the less it's mentioned, the better. -Jaina feeling SOME resentment towards the Jedi. I'm not saying she has to be pissed at Luke for the rest of her life, but I simply cannot believe Jaina could stand by the Order after what she had to do. I would be happy for her to politely resign from the Order and spend some time finding herself. Maybe after she's made peace with what happened she can think about returning to the Order. -END THE LOVE TRIANGLE ALREADY. ZEKK IS OUT OF THE PICTURE DO IT NOW. |

Mine is pretty simple...if you start a sub plot for a series, end it and make sure it exists for a good reason. I can stomach pretty much anything if that
happens.
The things that irked me the most were the out of left field, scratch your head events that happened as well as the no reason for it. The final kick in the teeth is when there is no closure for it as well. I mean, did Alema really need to be introduced to the sith in Legacy? That just detracted from the caedus storyline. As much as I will always dislike Invincible and will bitch about everything that was wrong with it until the end of time, I will go into FOTJ with an open mind. IMO, there is only one way to go from Invincible and that is up. |

Yeah, the pet character thing is the thing to chuck. They shouldn't just drop a character's storyline just because it's the next author's turn.
And if they just have to use their toys... pick them up when they're done. If you use a character for your book and you know the next author won't use
them, then wrap up his storyline! Don't leave it dangling.

Honestly, just better continuity and consistency between novels - which includes the use of 'pet' characters. If Allston uses Wedge, then dammit, the
other writers ought to be able to find a page or two to devote to a mention of him. And for the love of God, promise to use R2D2 and C3P0.

*Don't have authors that will use ONLY their own OCs/fave characters. Mix n' match. Otherwise the entire series will be disjointed and will not flow
easily. Why can't Denning use Myri Antilles? Why can't Allston use Lowbacca? Why can't everyone else use the Mandalorians? Why does the personnel
crew of Jacen's ship depend solely on which author is using them?
*Give Threepio and Artoo something to do. For crap's sake they may as well be dead or gone off to live by themselves. They're MAIN characters, despite what some of the authors seem to believe. If we can have entire subplots revolve around Boba Fett or Wedge Antilles then why not Threepio/Artoo? Just because they are not flesh and blood doesn't mean they aren't entertaining or should be relegated to once a book mentions. *Some sort of something from someone remembering something positive about Jacen. I cannot believe that thirty years of his heroics, and love, and passions and strengths and feelings of positivity from other characters are simply erased by ten months of him being a Sith and doing evil things. *Internal and intra-novel consistency. If someone is being a Sith Lord in secret, then please don't have every other character musing on how their
secretive relative is a Sith Lord when they shouldn't even know this fact. If someone is imprisoned on the Millennium Falcon, and the next book
picks up just days later and no one has left the ship, please don't forget that someone is imprisoned on the Falcon. If a character's eye
colour is blue, please have it remain blue unless they specifically need an eye colour change and tell us how they're changing they're eye colour.
*Antilles/Fel family reunion. Why? Because it past due time and it would be one of the most overall fan pleasing things ever. Seriously, who could say no to this? *YJK: Stop making them insane or evil or excessively emotionally damaged. And while you're at it, bring back Raynar, stop relegating Lowie and Tesar to
cameos, and stop making Tahiri everyone's little bitch. These are interesting characters damnit, and not the whipping boys and girls of the Expanded
Universe.

Honestly? All I need is a guarantee of page counts. I have yet to read a Star Wars novel of sufficient length that I would not read again for pleasure. We know
Denning has quality when he has page counts.
Oh, and I need some type of oral contract that there will be as least as many appearances in this as LotF- except not as cameos. You know, like Talon Karrde doing something with Lando and Mirax present.

I do miss that about the Bantam books--the authors had no problem bringing in random characters to play important parts in the story. In LotF, if you're
name wasn't Skywalker, Solo or Fett, you weren't very important. Bring back Karrde, Lando, Drayson, Bel Iblis! No more name dropping!

Well....I'm not so sure how I feel about Del Rey getting the new contract. While I did love NJOE and some parts of LOTF, I think that Del Rey and Lucasfilm
itself has taken SW to a different, more dark and depressing level. And I'm starting not to like that. I think if Del Rey can return to the swashbuckling,
more light-hearted aspect of SW, it will be good.
Oh, and more Tenel Ka! Daala Count- 20 and counting and Hapans Rule All!

As long as it's name is "The Last Days of Ben Skywalker" or something like that. Perhaps an I, Jedi -style novel? "Before I Died: From the
Adventures of Ben Skywalker".
