Posts: 2319 09/04/08 2:40 PM	You should have learned that only comics matter nowadays to makers of these guides... Somehow it's the the comics that have the closest links to RPGs for some reason. RPG players are comic readers but not novel readers or something like that. Same with the collectibles. I was sure that this would be just about the comics from the beginning. But then DR's disappointingly plotted, meekly written LotF doesn't really earn mentions in guides. They hadn't guts to do anything with their Sith war except to kill Jacen and Mara. Not that this guide would have anything put a passing mentions to do with LotF even if Darth Caedus would have been a figure to rival Darth Vader in more than the blurbs. Pity that Legacy itself isn't much better than LotF.

Posts: 2321 09/04/08 3:20 PM	When it comes to collectibles, I mean that people who are into that part of SW tend also to play RPGs and read comics, so lots of the collectibles come from the comics and even from very obscure sources. Just think of how few novel characters we have gotten in collectibles. I don't remember seeing Solo kid figures or Jacen as Darth Caedus figures, not even a figure of that vermin Ben Skywalker, not to speak of lesser novel characters. Yet we get figures of comic characters which even many of the walking encyclopaedias of EU knowledge would probably have had hard time remember that they exist, them having appeared in just a few panels of a comic years ago. Posts: 2322 09/04/08 4:30 PM	Yes, I had to went to Rebelscum and check their checklist and of course I just got more irritated. Even K'Kruhk is getting his own figure. It's a disgrace how Hasbro selects it's figures. And I found Jacen as Darth Caedus. The figure is supposed to be "very rare". Posts: 572 09/04/08 4:52 PM	Okay Hasbro's toys are kinda my thing so here goes: Hasbro's official word on why novel characters are overlooked is because there isn't much visual reference to the characters. That's why there are so few novel action figures. Now on the front of there aren't even any Solo kids action figures, that may be changing for 2009 with a certain three pack. Is Hasbro trying to get these figures on the market? Yes they are; but they are trying to get definitive versions of how the characters look. Something that is kind of hard to do when most authors don't give a discription of what they wear. Now you can go out and buy a two pack of Luke and Mara from the Thrawn trilogy; but it's based off of the comic version of the book. When someone is a fan of the novels and toys it is frustrating not to see your favorite character. Now I have heard rumblings that this trend may stop and it depends on what/who gets featured in some upcoming works

Haven't the Hasbro folks ever noticed that the novels have those pictures on the cover - or that the recent Jedi vs Sith guide gave more pictures about the Solo kids? It's a curious thing that they would make figures only when there is soon no Solo kids left at all in new EU novels. But I gather based on that last remark that we will soon get Ben Skywalkers and Jagged Fels etc...

Plus Ben's outfit on the cover of Fury is different from the JvS outfit. As I said they are looking for ways to get definitive looks for some of the characters. EDIT: by definitive looks I mean one or two main outfits, not Padme's closet Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin all have definitive looks from the numerous covers they've been on. Mainly YJK and JJK, but Jacen's look on Betrayal is good as well, and so is Jaina's from Invincible. Star Wars collector's are a finicky bunch and Hasbro knows it all to well. Take the Darth Talon Cade Skywalker two-pack some people weren't going to buy it because it didn't include Cade's lightsaber. Hasbro made a running change and now it does. And someone on Rebelscum is buying it again because they don't think Hasbro is going to be releasing another Cade hahahahaha!

Because comic characters tend to have wildly different portrayals - for example, just look at Zayne Carrick in KOTOR. I would say that there are at least three clearly different portrayals of Zayne Carrick with very different facial features. Which one gets to be the figure?

Apparently, some guy with an "ice cream maker" is more wanted than the Solo Kids), or comic figures that either look wrong or just plain suck. Not to mention exclusives... When Hasbro starts releasing novel figures, I'll start buying again. And bs on the "no images." Use the Japanese covers for NJO and DN. And LOTF when we get them. Posts: 575 09/05/08 6:32 AM	I don't disagree, I think that novel figures should be produced. I'm only reporting what Hasbro believes and wants to try and do with novel characters. One thing most fans don't realize is that we aren't going to get multiple versions of these characters it's going to be one maybe two; and that's a big maybe. Hasbro knows that there is a contingent of fans that want novel characters but they want to do them right, and make fans happy. There are a lot of characters who fit the mold for multiple releases: Jaina, Corran, Jacen, Ben, Mara, etc., etc. Eventually we will see some released, not all of them but some.
