With the permission of the artist I can reveal that Chris Trevas is one of the artists doing interior artwork for the Leagcy Era Campaign Guide!! Mr. Trevas did part of the artwork for the beautifully detailed book: Star Wars Jedi vs. Sith The Essential Guide to the Force. Posts: 1636 08/17/08 10:46 PM	Interesting...I'm not a WotC person but I've looked through some of these guide books before and they're quite interesting (and I love looking at the descriptions of the ships/characters). I'll have to take a look when this comes out. You know, its kind of sad that if I were to mention the discussions that go on here to somebody in the real world, they would call me crazy as well as obsessive and a complete geek/nerd/whatever. Then I come here and discover that I'm way out of my league. Especially when people recall details that I don't even remember....

Posts: 92 08/18/08 12:00 AM	One of the things I prefer about the WotC books is that they are compendiums of existing material and not generating more EU. I've always believed that it is the place of a franchise RPG to translate existing material into gaming terms. It's the job of literary fiction to generate the story. A lot of people on a certain forum (isn't it sad how they cast a shadow over everything) poo-poo everything about WotC Star Wars because they don't attempt to add to the EU, just render it into game mechanics. But, that's an RPG's mandate! I give the early WEG (West End Games) a free pass on this issue because they had almost thing to translate, just the OT and maybe SotME. WEG had to name Twi'leks, for cryin' out loud. I applaud them for that early EU pioneering. But, after the Bantam and Dark Horse stuff took off, they really should have devoted their energy to translating that material into game mechanics. Eventually, it was WEG's over exuberance in adding new material (book after trivial book that didn't sell) that eventually lost them the Star Wars license.

Posts: 7754 08/18/08 3:27 AM	I'd have to disagree in that I do think some of the RPG guides do wing it sometimes and create smaller pieces of info that are new and added to continuity. I do recall the NJO Sourcebook revealing certain planets that fell to the Yuuzhan Vong that the novels never did, and I also recall it gave us some rather intriguing information regarding the Errant Venture, its weaponry and how this totally reconfigures part of the ending of Conquest. I also think some of the RPG guides have rather exquisite artwork. Look in the NJO Sourcebook at that image of Nom Anor addressing the Senate and perhaps my favourite image of all the RPG guides which shows the Millennium Falcon leaving a ruined Coruscant. I'm really of the mind to buy this RPG, but I do need to know whether it will only be covering the Legacy comics, or the Legacy ERA. All sources I can find list is as a LEGACY ERA guide, but only specify COMICS in the information presented. Because we sure need some imagery and piccies for LOTF, which is what I'm hoping this tome will do, if nothing else. I want my picture of Jacen V Jaina, damnit, and I'd also be welcoming for any and all images of ALLANA.

Posts: 3373 08/18/08 6:32 PM	Wizards of the Coast has actually produced a respectable amount of canon, if you consider The Living Force, the online articles, and other factoids found in the sourcebooks. If you add up everything released at the same time, I would compare it to the Essential Guides- its primary purpose is clarifying existing canon, but it fills in plotholes and may even add facts abd details. Posts: 94 08/18/08 7:18 PM	I don't disagree with the whole 'mortar between the bricks' idea...but I'm just saying WEG crushed itself under a ton of new material that didn't dovetail well with what was being produced in the EU literature. WotC has avoided that trap by only producing new content when it has two (or when it's endemic to the project, such as the Living Force series), and not just making up stuff because they can.

Posts: 7759 08/18/08 10:04 PM	Such as? I know their information on vessels and vehicles, for example, if used by authors in their novels, such as Stackpole, Zahn and Allston. WOTC, really, has only ever added to the continuity. I can't recall any instances of it saying something that totally flew in the face of novel/comic literature. There was that one instance where they had that mini-article that said that Lumiya was not really a Sith until Vergere had a crack at her, but all of the information of theirs I have read in their published books has indeed supported and even furthered canon. I also second Zinnos' assertion that we need a picture of the family dinner in Betrayal. A hearty YES PLEASE from me.

Let me get this straight... they're doing a guide on an era that's had 9 books separated by 60-100 years from 30 comic issues. Isn't this kind of putting the horse before the cart? Frankly, it WOULD make more sense if it is only covering the Legacy comic era. At least there they can skip all the material yet to be written and just write a campaign guide for the current status of the Legacy comic (probably from the Alliance vs Empire war through to the 'present'). But I'm just not so sure about covering LotF, and if they do, there's going to be some major skippage to go from there to Legacy. But this isn't my kind of thing at all, so -meh-.

If I recall, it was written around the time of Balance Point (though I read it around the time of Destiny's Way, so it could be even older). Has anybody read any other Saga Sourcebooks? Posts: 2225 08/19/08 11:03 AM	I would guess that it will be mostly just about the comics, with especially NJO and to a lesser extent DN and LotF as a background for them. Yes, when it comes to novels, I think that NJO will feature more than the Legacy era novels.

Exactly what I was going to point out ... the NJO sourcebook was released around the midpoint of the series at earliest which I still think was a stupid decision - how can you release a sourcebook when the source material isn't finished? Well, obviously I understand the point, release the source book in the middle so players can utilize it and capitalize on the stories currently going on... wait until after it finishes and people have moved onto other things. Still, then the NJO readers deserve a follow-up... part 2. I also felt the artwork in the NJO sourcebook seemed a little... lacking (both in number and in quality).

Posts: 7767 08/19/08 8:20 PM	I think the problem with the NJO Sourcbook was that it only covered up to SBS and the writers were working off of incomplete plans for the series, which is why they said Kenth Hamner was involved in Myrkr (which was the original plan - he was to take Ganner's role) and that Nom Anor was coming at Jacen with a knife when Vergere captured him. I too have always thought they needed a NJO Sourcebook Part 2, which would theoretically also include Dark Nest. I also get the vibe that the Legacy Era Guide will focus solely on the comics, but it is my HOPE that they can somehow work it so that LOTF rates some mentions as well. But yes, common sense would dictate it looks after the comics only. As long as someone in the Legacy Era Guide tells me that Lowbacca made it onto the Jedi Council (and has maybe survived in to the comic line!!), then all is forgiven.

I have looked though the Revised ones and the Saga ones are MUCH easier to understand, I can create a character in about 10-15 min. instead of...well...whatever it took for Revised! The background information (the stuff about specific characters, planets, vehicles, etc.) is C-canon, while the stats themselves, like gameplay mechanics in video games, are ignored. Articles posted on the WotC website are the same way. When the world needs him, the warrior Fet'antilles will rise again from the grave.
