We've all seen our favorite heros and most hated enemies take a final bow and leave the EU. I personally almost cried when Thrawn died. Last night I finished Tratior (I am not a Stover fan...I hated Shatterpoint and did not care much for ROTS). But I must say he hit a homerun with this book
...and boy...can he write a death scene!!!
After reading it I felt so cheated with Anakin's death, and even with Mara's and Jacen's death. They were both such great characters, they needed
a more fitting and spectacular ending like Ganner.
IMO Ganner's death scene was the best I've read in the EU. "None Shall Pass"...wow...just wow
. How he went from being such a wanna be hero to a real hero in the end. What
a specatacual scene Stover penned in how Ganner, single handed, fought with so much honor that even the vong were overly impressed! I also enjoyed the final
scene of Chewie....that final 'picture' of him..defiant against the moon on Serinpedial...is etched in my memory. Thrawn's death was
so...dignified...he even died with style and a great line "But...it was so artistically done", so very Thrawn (the greatest
character in the EU IMO)
.
Mara/Jacen/Anakin needed a line like 'None Shall Pass'
Jacen
with syringes stuck in his face with no arm and no leg, being taken out...I'm sorry, but that sucked compared to Ganner's swan song. I may not have
liked him much as a character, but he was a great hero and deserved better. Anakin becoming one with the force and fighting to the death was good, but not
memorable. He was one of the greatest characters of the EU IMO and deserved WAY more memorable of a death. Mara being suckered by Jacen's
trick...not fitting for such a great warrior. I felt kinda cheated...I hope that when it comes time for Han, Luke, Leia, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Saba, Wedge, Katarn, Corran, etc. that they will each get a death scenes close to being as good and memorable as Ganners
.
PS....Does Nom Anor ever not escape
???

I must say he did
shock me in the end...he did a complete about face and realized how wrong he had been. I never liked him much until the end....
