I'm thinking no rundown. Its been what, 10,000 years? Maybe a couple flashbacks to give the gist of it, but I'd like to keep a good portion of the past either unrevealed or flexible, depending on what future developments require. I don't want to get too rigid with the plot.

I think the old thing I wrote that's hanging out in the EDD IN HERE forum is pretty much good enough for the opener. Maybe a little bit more, I dunno. Then as Rogue said, let you guys take over.

I think we do need to discuss a bit the basic outlines of the galaxy we're working in before we start, so everyone's on the same page. Its a galaxy that's been at peace for about 10,000 years (right, Acky? that is the time frame, correct?).

This peace has been accomplished through a form of brainwashing...I haven't decided for sure exactly how I want to run the brainwashing (I'm thinking more through conditioning and media control/censorship than your traditional "Carrot Root System", thoughts on this would be good).

B/c of the peace, the galaxy doesn't have much of a standing military...its become a kinda outdated concept (like say vassalage would be to us, to give a kinda weak example).

I haven't decided exactly what to do with dissenters/criminals. I do have a sort of "Night's Watch" concept in mind (if you've read ASOIAF, which I'm sure none of you have, even though you all should have...what's your excuse, huh? What is it? *ahem* moving on). A secret "force" composed mostly of dissenters against the gov't and its ideals so to speak that guards the edge of the galaxy against any possible threat/invasion. This group would be looked down on by the majority of the universe (as in viewed as criminals/slime/w/ disgust). At one point, the gov't endorsed it (privately, not publically), but as the millenia piled up and no threat manifested itself, they withdrew all support and then later began to view it as a threat against the common order, and became an enemy to it. I don't have this all worked out concretely, suggestions here would be appreciated as well.

The main "thrust" so to speak of NGPW is going to be the inevitable intergalactic invasion by a race of evil aliens (ah, the tried and true method, hopefully we can spice it up a bit). As there is NO military whatsoever, it could get interesting.

Oh, one more thing, related to the brainwashing. This isn't a society of clones or emotionally dead ppl or anything "yes master, whatever you say master". I kinda look at it as very similar to America today, only much less violent and opinionated.

Um. That's all I have concrete. Ideas on size of the galaxy? Technology? Society? Government? Thoughts on the aforementioned points? Anything else you want to bring up? Open to suggestions here.

Oh, the Force. What's going to be up w/ that? I'm guessing its mostly going to be supressed...not seeing any Jedi order running around.

As for the Lettuce-class, that's not really a military, its a relic from my understanding. Its like we've got suits of armor in our museums, but they're not part of a military anymore.

I'm wondering about the plausibility of a cruiser being around 10,000 years later. Would 1000 years be a better timeframe?
