Just west of the northern edge of the former galaxy known to the Producians as their own, a battle waged between Produce forces and small space entities, one of the first alien species that the Produce encountered. One of the hostile species. Hundreds of similar battles had taken place in the small area so far explored by the Produce.
Scientists estimated that even the long range ships they had sent out three months ago had only explored 1/100th of the area now exposed to the formerly enclosed Producians.
Advancements had been made in sciences thanks to Alliances forged with at least 30 new species encountered by the Producians that allowed for long range fuel seeds to be produced. Another new technology was the SunBeam phaser. It was designed by the Extrusives, the only species known to exist to have defeated the Veggies when they tried to attack Extrusive space. The SunBeam had so far been employed on 75% of the Produce fleet. The remaining ships to be outfitted with this weapon would be done so as soon as they returned from exploration - if they did.
That warning of "if you return" was issued to every starship and every starship captain preparing to embark on a shuttle out of Produce space. Even the 30 species vowing to protect and allow Produce ships to enter their space weren't enough.
The best scientists and long range biological scans had been able to identify over 3 million species within 500 thousand lightyears. And the same scientists estimated this new galaxy to be OVER 14 billion lightyears wide. When this report was brought to the people, most counted it as rubbish, although the more knowledgeable council members had acknowledged this fact as truth deciding to wait until the scientists could be proven wrong.
Meanwhile, trouble brews within the realm of inhabited Producian space. Because of the devastation caused by the Yuuzhan Veggie Atrocities, the governments in Produce Space eye space exploration missions suspiciously and wearily. Even former supporters of exploration such as Senator Glenn and Admiral Pear speak out against the explorations with the belief that another major conflict caused by exploration could cause a total political collapse in Produce Space.
While these terse arguments divide the Produce Republic and Triad Republic, turbulent maelstroms plague known space. The confusion caused by the Atrocities and initial political reorganizations gave shrewd power hungry individuals the opportunity to seize power. While Ghant'ls Una's rogue military threatens Intecid stability, George Wapple watches closely to expand the economic influence he had gathered over the Outer Rim.
Perhaps the biggest development in the changing galaxy is the reach to the past; citizens all around the megaverse are attempting to repiece their culture from the destruction caused by the Yuuzhan Veggies. Armed only with memories and clues, these citizens attentively gather to rediscover their history, a job that that may turn out to be the biggest challenge yet.
Some citizens though took an entirely different approach. Find a new heritage. Many citizens - against the government's advises - left Produce space and joined new civilizations hoping that maybe there would be somewhere to finally settle down to peace and quiet...
Across the galaxy, the farthest exploration ship had met a hostile species and engaged in combat. Requesting help was out of the question, conidering that the nearest ship was almost 10 days away.
The ship, large and familer to Producians, dove quickly a sight unexpected to the attackers, considering the large ship's size.
"Docking clamps released."
The large ship suddenly halted and with a quick burst of a plume of gas that disappeared in space, a smaller ship dropped from the bottom of the larger ship.
"Take us out Mr. Paris." Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation starship USS Voyager called to her conn operator, "Shadow we have cleared the dock. Ord, you're in command."
"Aye Captain." The image of Ord quickly shut off and was replaced by the ships coming in.
Janeway tapped her comm badge as she returned to her command chair, "Bridge to Astrometrics. Seven, record these ships and try to match the data with something we've already got." Please let us have something on these already...our shields won't hold out forever...
Seven of Nine who had returned to Voyager when the Shadow and Voyager returned after the destruction of the galactic barrier and gave their report. Ecky meanwhile was still recovering and although it had been a year now, it could be even longer. "Checking Captain."
A pause. Utter silence filled the bridge aside from the constant pounding on Voyager's shields.
"Captain...you may not like this. I'm transferring the data to the bridge."
"Captain, they're hailing." Kim called from the Operations station.
Janeway stood again and walked to the center of the bridge and nodded at Kim.
The viewscreen changed to the image of the commander of the attacking fleet.
"It can't be..." Paris muttered quietly from the conn.
"Captain, the data Seven found concurs with the image. The attacking ships are using Intecid weapons, and considering that the person on the screen is Intecid..." Tuvok said softly.
Grimicing, Janeway nodded, "My name is Captain Kathryn Janeway, of the Federation starship Voyager."
"Your name is irrelevant. You are trespassing in Intecid space."
"Excuse me, but my people met the Intecids 15 years ago. In what we thought was our own galaxy. Are you not the same species?"
The Intecid on the screen smiled, "We are. Infact, my brother led the invasion force that attempted to wipe out your 'galaxy.'"
"That would make your brother..."
"Ristib Courna. My name is Kenota Courna."
Janeway looked back at Tuvok as the transmission ended abruptly. "Open a channel to the Shadow."
"Channel open Captain."
"You get that Ord?"
"Yes ma'am, we did. Orders?"
Kathryn stepped up to the conn, "We're heading back to Produce space: Maximum warp. Meet us there."
"Yes Captain." Ord said, closing the channel.
"Tuvok, prepare a long range message directed at Produce space. Send the Producians the information we collected on the Intecids, and a message."
"The message is..?" Tuvok inquired.
"That I'd bet that we'll meet all of the Producians 'old enemies' here. Let's hope none of them hold grudges."
Janeway sat in the command chair, crossed her legs and leaned back, "Mr. Paris. Change course back to Produce Space. Maximum warp."
"Aye Captain."
With the Intecid fleets giving up chase, Voyager's warp nacells folded up and the ship disappeared at warp 9.975 back to Produce space with the Shadow following in close pursuit.
