Good luck, Rev. We're all here for you.
And I'm going on vacation until Friday. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have for Internet, what with the sun and the surf and the cost of hotel room Internet access. So i'll see you guys in a week.

I'm back. Now going on a week without a smoke and feeling much better. Day three was actually the hardest. It was the day I discovered once again the exact
spot on the brain that controls addiction. It's right near the top of your head but a little to the left, about two inches under your skull. Sounds dopey
unless you've been there. That spot on the brain puts up a Hell of a fight. I took the time to take care of some other interests in the great frozen north
where there are no wireless or cell phone signals, so I truly had no way of being around if I wanted. Got home safe and sound late last night.
Well. now I can face forty free of all vices. I don't drink, smoke or gamble, never did drugs and don't watch a lot of TV. I guess I can concentrate on my favorite addictions now, money and Sci-Fi. I've got a lot of reading to do here. Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I didn't see them until just now but you guys are the best. I appreciate it. Gee, I was the last post here a month ago ....
You guys get to be rid of me for three whole days. I'm off on an Outdoor Adventure Leadership training course. All the training to run Outdoor Adventure camps for kids -- which is the great part! ...and all the paperwork to go with it. See you all next week. (Oh! No loud parties while I'm gone. Remember to lock the doors when you leave the house. Don't eat everything in the refrigerator. Don't torment your little sister. And don't forget to do your homework!! )

Myri, you're a better woman than I am. Nature & I don't mix very well. Throw in a bunch of kids, and I'm going to be a thousand miles away
(I have been raising kids for 34 years now; I earned myself a break).
no i am a brother with three sisters all youngerThat was for Acejaya whose younger brother torments her pretty well. And with 3 sons, I've seen my share of older brothers tormenting younger brothers. I keep warning them that payback's a bitch, but they don't listen. |

But it's okay to torment your little brother.Naturally! It's always open season on little brothers.
(I'm just glad mine doesn't lurk here! )
Myri, you're a better woman than I am.Not a chance of that. A good friend of mine has three sons, which includes a set of twins (the twins are 18 months younger than older brother). She said to me once that mothers of sons get a free pass through purgatory! So far, everything I've seen gives me no reason to doubt her on this point. You know, this weekend there were inspiration quotes from historical figures and personalities posted in various spots in the mess hall this weekend. Everyone from Julius Caesar to Winston Churchill, to Baden-Powell, to JFK. Then there was one from W.C. Fields. I got such a kick out of it I jotted it down in my notes. It said: "Marry an outdoors woman. Then, if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive." W.C. Fields never met the likes of our Uliah. I'm sure those thoughts would have been hastily re-arranged if he had! Toast a marshmellow for me.Oh, good! I was wondering how I was going to reconcile that fourth marshmallow with my conscience. It was in honour of you! Of course! Thanks, buddy!

She said to me once that mothers of sons get a free pass through purgatory! That reminds me of what a friend of mine once said. She taught seventh grade one single year & refused to do it ever again. She'd teach high school or elementary, but not middle school. According to her, teaching middle school was a free pass through purgatory. I have to say, for the most part I'd agree with her about middle schoolers. W.C. Fields never met the likes of our Uliah. I'm sure those thoughts would have been hastily re-arranged if he had!The irony of that is that it's my males who' ve made me the woman I am today. Combating all that testosterone takes toughness. perfecting "the look" doesn't hurt either. You know, the one that says she knows what you did. |

Nature & I don't mix very wellUliah and I are in complete agreement. I have spent many nights sleeping on the hard cold ground. Some nights you can't even sleep because the cold gets so far inside you. Of course that was a long time ago and under much different circumstances. I think my main driving motivation in life is to be absolutely certain I never spend a night shivering again. Ace, my sister had three little Brothers. Now she's a Middle School teacher. Coincidence? I think not.
I was wondering how I was going to reconcile that fourth marshmallowFourth? I love marshmellows. I never keep them in the house because if I did I'd just sit and eat a bag of them. I couldn't possibly stop at four. Never cared too much for chocolate but marshmellows
Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake. W. C. Fields Ah, the patter of little feet around the house. There's nothing like having a midget for a butler. W. C. Fields A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her. W. C. Fields Those are the funny ones. Now the ones I live by; Abstaining is favorable both to the head and the pocket. W. C. Fields A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money. W. C. Fields Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. W. C.
