I never ever go around talking about websites I spend a lot of time on, if only because I don't want to be "that guy." But if you're interested in a free Star Wars-themed game you can play on your computer... this is right up your alley.
It's called Gal-Com, short for "Galactic Community." I've been a member for a little over 5 years. It was originally created as a chat website, called "The Holocron." The creator, a native of Austrailia who codes the whole thing himself, found that the chat began wavering and he'd always envisioned turning the site into an interactive RPG, complete with PvP elements.
So about four years ago, the site became Gal-Com. How much effort you put in the game is up to you. If you join the forums for the game, you can roleplay your character and participate in the storylines that the game experiences. Or you can just wing it and play the game. So let's talk about that.
The game started originally with the Clone Wars, and the storyline went through the Empire and ended with the treaty between New Republic and Empire. You name your character, decide what skills he/she will have, and even pick an affiliation (Empire, Rebellion, Smugglers, Mandos, etc - Jedi/Sith are invite only). It's very text-based, although there's plenty of interaction. You can explore deep space and find new planets, work on planets to build industry and loyalty, make or space planetary blockades, and even capture other players and hold them captive/kill them.
The reason I'm posting about the game now is that the site just went under a massive "reset." The storylines were finished, and a new one began. We're now in the KOTOR era, in the build-up leading to the Great Sith Wars (a time period that hasn't been touched upon in the Star Wars EU). The site is always looking for new members (it had over 1000 before the reset, now we're sitting at around 200 with many joining each day).
All you need is a web browser to play it, and I encourage you all to stop by and take a look! I realize I'm probably not explaining this too well, but if you're at all interested or just want to check out the site, do so here:

Oh, and if you do decide to join up... I'm the leader of the Czerka Corporation (Alek Kareu). Always looking for more morally corruptible peeps.
