I don't mean to sound like the grinch here, but I've had several complaints lately about several users and sig length. This was all supposed to come down in a post from me talking about general board things but I've been swamped and haven't gotten it done.
There are some extremely long sigs out there - from big quotes, to images, to the Last.fm stuff and now I'm worried we're going to start seeing the NaNoWriMo images as well popping up. I don't want to start setting length requirements or anything, but I do think it's starting to get out of hand.
Sigs shouldnt' really be any longer than your average post length - consider that enticement for longer posts, I guess. Utilize HTML and other coding to make smaller text - use a divider line to separate sig from post.
I don't care, but I'd like to see some of this affected. Consider what you really need in a sig. Do you need four paragraphs from a book?
As a general guideline, I'd say your sig shouldn't be any more than 7 - 10 lines of text. That doesn't mean lines of characters, but your text, plus iamges, I'd say shouldn't be much longer than the space taken up by 7-10 lines of text.
