Inside Star Wars: The Essential Atlas, learn about the structure of the galaxy, the astronomical and geopolitical divisions and distinction that frame this far-away setting. Sections devoted to specific regions in the galaxy include the Deep Core, the Colonies, Hutt Space, the Outer Rim and more. An alphabetical collection of planetary profiles details over 70 worlds, while the historical atlases chart the expansion of galactic exploration, conquest and conflict from the earliest campaigns of Xim the Despot, to the rise of Palpatine's Galactic Empire, to the brutal invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong to the latest conflict between Corellia and Coruscant. An expansive Appendix lists the galaxy's star systems with notes about sector and regional placement for easy reference.

I'm very excited by that, but I'd like to see some sample pages before I get too over board.

I really am hoping, as I've said, that this is the Star Wars equivalent to Star Charts. That'd be the perfect world scenario...

I awaken into this world fully programmed yet completely innocent, unaware of the hardships I'll endure or the great potential I will one day fulfil.

Does anyone know if this is supposed to be one of the shitty-looking (through browsing at the bookstore) giant $25 hardcovers, or more in line with the other Essentials?

Just have Hapes, Mon Calamari, and Dathomir included as part of the 'over 70 detailed planets' and I'll be fine.

Zinnos, stop making me drool even more!

I suspect that all the movie planets will be included in that "over 70" section, as well as majorly important EU worlds (Corellia, Hapes, Mon Cal, Csilla, here's looking at you!).

I can't wait to see a map of what territory the New Republic controlled versus what the GA controls.

The problem with anything that relates to the movies is that they're more often than not completely willing to make Mustafar a more important planet than, say, Bastion or Mon Cal (correct me if either's been shown in a movie).

Nope neither of those have been shown in the movies but there is still no chance of Mustafar not being listed considering what happened there in Ep. 3.

Between this atlas and Jedi vs. Sith we're getting two pretty good essential books coming out soon.

I think what Iurus is trying to say is that even though Mustafar didn't play as big of a roll in the overall scheme of things as say...Eu planets Hapes and Corellia, it will have a bigger entry. And I agree that that will probably happen.

And I want to see a map of the Yuuzhan Vong controlled region as of Unifying Force.

Would that be more or less territory than as Destiny's Way? I remember the GFFA began to score victories around that point, so that was probably the peak of Vong control.

Around the same. The Yuuzhan Vong did win at Duro, Bilbringi, and Esfandia.

What *I* want to see is a map from say, 31 or 32 ABY which shows those pesky little Yuuzhan Vong strongholds that the GA had yet to wipe clean after the liberation of Coruscant.

You know, when Nas Choka said that a few of his battalions had refused to decamp for Zonama?

A map on that.

Maybe a little map of that. Another thing that intrigued me was when it mentioned the Confederation War. I wonder how they will update with that. I hate it though, when they update during the middle of the series. They did that for the New Essential Guide for Characters durin the NJO, and The New Essential Chronology for DN.

Yeah... The Atlas will be published after Revelation, so it won't miss out on THAT much in that regard.

It just depends on when the book was written, not published. But I'd still like to see all of the guides updated once more in the future.

agree with what Mr.NomAnor stated. that would be pretty cool to see some of the smaller Yuuzhan Vong strongholds. What would be neat is to see a book about how they went about hunting down the last vestiges of Yuuzhan Vong holdouts. Maybe a Tales of the NJO. that would be something...

but back on topic. yeah i'm pretty psyched about it... but i'll browse through it before i buy it.

Not necessarily.

For example, take the New Essential Chronology. Published before Swarm War, Dark Lord and Outbound Flight, yet it contained info on all three.

Usually when it pertains to guides, the author(s) is given info on other titles to be published within the next couple of months, and depending on how spoilerific, they can usually get away with including something about the upcoming texts.

What I'm hoping is that it locks down the precise locations of worlds like Orto (a MUST!), Omwat, Cadomai Prime, Vurdon Ka, the Utegetu Nebula and tells us where the hell the Tof and Nagai homeworlds are in relation to the Unknown Regions!

My biggest aspiration for the atlas is the first step in three-dimensional coordinates. Is Bespin really close to Hoth? As far as the maps we've seen, they could be the closest systems ever... or they could be half a galaxy apart. This would be especially useful for planets that seem to be in the middle of Sith space yet with no Sith history (can't remember off the top of my head).
