Posts: 16 May 19 12 2:05 PM	I love and hate how splintered it is, how the perspectives all of us have are so different, and discussions (about something we all love) in some cases deteriorate into venemous arguments. Born in 1981, I grew up with the OT. Even if the PT wasn't what I expected, I still love it. When we were finally given a visualization of what the Jedi Order was, I was prompted to wonder what the post-RotJ SU was like. What happened to Luke, Leia, and Han, etc.? I got into reading the books starting with The Swarm War and Tattooine Ghost in 2005 and my collection has exploded since then. Given that most of the Del Rey books are post-Ep 1, I am partial to them. I like the majority of the characters that came from the Bantam-era and some of the story ideas therein, but without the information supplied by the PT--they just seem inferior to me. Even if I don't agree with everything about the way the story has gone (Anakin Solo being killed off and parts of the Jacen-arc for instance), I still have enjoyed the ride up to this point (Apocalypse), and eagerly await the future of SW.

Posts: 124 May 20 12 5:16 PM	Remove this ad I love that there is such a diverse membership - that there are folks talking about Star Wars and interacting with people all over the world. There's also a great diversity in the age of the membership, offering something for folks of all ages to enjoy and discuss. Of course, with the Star Wars universe being so large, there is the problem of continuity - something that really irks me a bit, but not something that would turn me off altogether. I enjoy chatting with folks who have a different school of thought about continuity issues - what's right and wrong. Makes for great conversation. Posts: 5599 May 24 12 4:47 PM	Nowadays I don't really hate anything in the Star Wars fandom, I've come pretty sanguine about all the storms in the teacup. What I like is the enthusiasm that people can have, especially now that my own has been seeping away. If it's an Imperial, it deserves to die.

I remember when there were fans having a beef with Karen Traviss for putting a Mando'a dictionary at the end of one of her novels, saying that it was making SW too geeky. I don't like that some fans really think Han didn't shoot first (another schism point). And I hate that everybody and their grandmother tries to do the Slave Leia thing at conventions, because I think that if you're going to cosplay anything with a face, you should resemble that thing. (This goes for Anakin Skywalkers too. I mean, if you don't even resemble the image in the movies, then you're just a guy in a costume.) The last point probably makes me odd, but I'm stuck in my ways. But the thing is, the sense of community shared by SW fans around the world is a beautiful thing, and it is the biggest redeeming quality of the fandom itself. Because no matter what, we'll gang up on the Trekkies [PS no offense if you like ST, I watched the original series myself.]

Anyone who saw the original film in the theaters when it first appeared knows Han shot first. It annoys me as well when people whine about that point of the movie. Han's supposed to be a flawed good guy. That means he does things others might not like, but somehow manages to get on the good side of things. Besides, if I knew that someone's eventual goal is to have me killed and I have a blaster in my face, I'm gonna shoot first, too! And the Slave Leia thing - I agree with that as well...especially because some people should simply just not even think about wearing that costume, myself included.
