I know others have expressed these similarities to the Halo storyline, but if they can tell a decent enough story out of it in relation to Star Wars, does it matter? A lot of stories are derivative of each other because if you boil all the stories ever told down to their base elements, there are, I think, only thirteen types of story you can tell. That's just the way it is (though I don't think that makes new stories using these archetypes any less interesting or addictive).

I don't care if the Celestials are reminscent of any number of other science-fiction "ancient races" (Farscape's Ancients, Star Trek's Galen architects, Stargate's Ancients, etc etc) as long as there is something about them that makes them unique to the 'verse of Star Wars and they are exciting in that story. I remain hopeful - partly because I do think Del Rey is on an upward swing - that whatever elements may seem similar to other franchises in FOTJ, the series itself can remain fresh and Star Wars-y if they tailor it to the GFFA.
