Seriously, they get put into every single Allston novel, and people are always so surprised and ecstatic to see them when they were just in the last Allston book. I don't understand really. Their involvement in OUTCAST felt very unnecessary to me beyond Allston wanting to scratch his ubiquitous Rogue Squadron itch. I understand Denning's pet characters, because when they contribute to their respective plots, it mostly makes sense. I can't say the same for Allston. And people knock Karen Traviss for being obsessive...
Had to get that off my chest. It felt good.

Well, there was the great "What happened to Tycho?" -question around in later LotF after Fury, so bringing him up in Outcast was kind of necessary to
show that he is still around.
Personally, considering that Jacen died in the end, Tycho like Kam, Katarn and Saba should have died in the scenes where it seemed that they might. It would have made poor Jacen look more menacing and made the lynch mob in the later novels more understandable.

I understand Denning's pet characters, because when they contribute to their respective plots, it mostly makes senseDebatable. It depends on what one person enjoys in regards to PoV . Now I am obviously bias towards the x-wing characters but I feel that the each author only using their own characters is lame in the first place because it does not have consistency or flow between novels. Now in FOTJ, there is more of a consensus between the authors and the stories which makes things more enjoyable. Both Outcast and Omen were overall great, with some valid criticisms toward them, but if one compares the first 2 LOTF novels, the authors seem more in tune this time around. |

True, but I just don't see Denning or Golden using any of the old X-wing characters. Allston, however, has definitely used Saba and some of Denning's
pet characters before. I guess I just feel that when Allston uses his, it's only to satisfy a personal need or craving. Just my opinion, though. I know
tons of fans love the X-wing/Wedge appearances.

S1thari wrote: Maybe that was the point. If we're actually going to see a Jedi/Lost Tribe vs. Celestials/Mind Walkers/some other enemy smackdown they can't be be all, end all evil. If they are just chasms of ultimate badness then it wouldn't make much sense for the Jedi to put any faith in them. And as an audience we would need to see that they're not wholly evil. |

If so, then they shouldn't really be called Sith...

To be fair, Denning has used Wedge on more than one occasion. Sure, he doesn't do that much in Denning novels but all Saba really does in Allston novels is
either be there for Jedi meetings or go on Jedi missions.
And I found Wedge's appearance in Outcast to actually be good for the plot. He showed up in that novel not having anything to do with Rogue Squadron or the military. Lando needed crack pilots. Wedge is a crack pilot. Wedge basically showed up in that novel to help out an old friend. I actually really appreciated it. Wedge stayed retired and went back to Iella or whatever after the cavern-collapsing mission was done. |

She's been raised on a Sith planet, insulated from the rest of the galaxy - loving parents (at least as far as a sith can love) and taught the ways of the sith all her life. This girl has never felt the touch of the light side so it'll be interesting to see her reaction when she meets the Jedi for the first time, escpecially Ben... As for Lady Rhea - well she better be out and out evil - I want a smackdown for her with Luke |

I agree about Rhea, but I hope you're wrong about Vestara. I know everyone is tired of Sith villains, but I hope she will remain a symbol of hope for the
Tribe, not for the Jedi. I'm not very interested in redemption, and twice as uninterested with the prospect of her becoming Ben's little girlfriend.

Ah I never said I want her paired off with Ben - or redeemed - I would personally love to see her experience the Light and then totally reject it to carry on
her current path.
That seems in a way more villainous than the usual flawed individual (Vader, Jacen, Tahiri etc.) who fallls to the dark for personal and self-serving reasons. |

Sorry Kar, I didn't mean to imply that you said that -- my fault. I've just seen so many different posts about it (throughout various different forums
and threads) that I guess I felt compelled to voice my opinion on the subject.

I suspect much of this discussion regarding Vestara and Rhea is INCREDIBLY borderline spoilorific. I can't prove that, not having followed for sure
what's been officially released, but let me remind/suggest that you tread lightly.

I recommend a good deal of this discussion be brough to the other Abyss thread- it's titled "Abyss Speculation" in the board where we can
actually post things about Vestara and the like.

Over here on theforce.net, a forumer found this link to a game (not Star Wars) that still has a group called Mind Walkers and who share
attributes/modus operandi that sounds eerily similar to what the upcoming Abyss Mind Walkers sound capable of doing. It seems the game is called
Darksea but I don't really know anything about the game itself.
Anyways, here is what it said about the Mind Walkers:

I wonder what lawyers would say about a "co-incidence" like that? Might they say "You must change that name - or the company will have to play
millions of dollars in compensation!" "Okay, what about Mind Drinkers, would that save us from a lawsuit?"
