I know.
---The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. At best his music was great, and yes, he was a flawed human being, but a great artist - which often goes hand to hand. In my case, his personal life did cast
such a shadow over his music that eventually I stopped listening his songs, but have been doing so now again after reading about his death, and perhaps as he
isn't around anymore himself the music can stand separate from his life. He died rather young, but at least it was a quick death.
So, even after those negative words, rest in peace. |

I was under the impression that the personal life issues were after most of his songs.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. |

This is one of those moments where it's hard to find the right words words to say. As an artist the man was an untouched genious and as Rogue pointed out
as a man he was flawed. I will say that the music world has lost one of its brightest stars today.

This doesn't feel as right, since I've already posted in the thread, but I still feel the need to say...
Thriller, anyone?

My local radio station has been playing his best stuff since about three o'clock. They sure bring me back. Granted, he'd already gone a little loopy by
the time I came around, but everyone has some memories they'll always associated with him. He was one of those people who affected just about everyone in
some way.
You know what I mean? |

While I acknowledge the things he has done for the music industry, and I enjoy his music, I cannot comprehed people who actually cry over his passing when they
didnt even know him-just the perception of him created- and add to the fact that he is possibly a child molestor at worst and slept with little boys in his bed
at best. I am not judging anyones sadness but just stating my own opinion so I hope no one takes it the wrong way. I can also understand people who were
touched by his music to help them get through difficult times but no one but hs inner circle actually knew him. His childhood seemed to have effed him up so I
sympathize but the outpouring of grief for someone who who dangles children over railings is staggering.

People, especially older ones like me, and those even little older especially, associate his music with our own lives, it is connected to our memories of our
own youth, and in these kind of situations nostalgia and sentimental feelings take over. It's not just MJ the artist and the man people are grieving, they
are also grieving the passing of their own youth.
But of course there is some amount of hysteria involved, human beings being susceptible to be swept away with public outpourings of grief, a kind of mob mentality of emotions. If one expects great women and men to be good people, one usually gets to be disappointed. But for some reason we expect famous, talented and succesful persons to be also good persons and their art or whatever they do, isn't enough, as it should be. So, our heroes tend to disappoint us in the end. But their works and the memories we have remain.

I don't know X, I'd say you put it pretty well yourself. I feel a huge Revmacd op-ed piece coming over this. I am having a hard time with words like
"for all he did for the music indusrtry". People are saying that like they are saying he cured cancer. It's music. He was a song and dance man.
Oh, and I know the prosocution failed to make the case but is there anyone who doesn't believe he was a statuatory rapist at best and a pedophile rapist at
worst? There were all those multi million dollar payouts to the childrens parents and such. Not that it makes him guilty...... maybe he just felt like giving
some people that kind of money despite them accusing him of molesting their children
.
I don't mean to offend anyone and if I did I apologize but I just can't work up any caring what so ever that there is one less child rapist in the world today.

It's funny, I saw it on the news, and it never occured to me before he could die. I never really viewed him as a person like everyone else,
because of his star status and of course the controversy surrounding pretty much his entire life. It was kind of surreal.

revmacd wrote:Personally I do think that he probably was guilty of the charges, but what I think doesn't mean anything. He was never found guilty and I think that both he and the first child's parents came out badly because of the payout. But the American justice system is really weighted towards things being sorted out before judge and jury have a chance to decide, so it's hard to say whether I'm fair at all by thinking so about them. In the second case, I don't understand why the parents even let the kid stay with him? The only answers I can come up with are not nice. It's a sordid mess and best what I can hope is that the children involved will come out of it without being mentally scarred. What comes to what he did to the music industry, just look the sales of his records now. His albums and songs are conquering the charts again. Lots of money for music industry. And humanity has always had a tendency to put show people, the song, dance and acting people above those who do the inventions (and hard work) that better our lives - except if the scientists etc themselves are on the basis of their personality celebrity material like Einstein, Edison or Sagan. It's just how things are - decades of quiet work in some laboratory are not that exciting to average man and woman. Show business done by charismatic personalities are.

This looks to me like it's getting worthy of a move to Alderaan... second opinion?

eh, I would say yes except that there is no real debate. I think we are all just stating our opinions, agreeing to disagree if need be, and moving on. Unless
people want to debate whether he is not a child molestor then I would say move it but I dont think it is worthy of a good debate considering everything else
going on in the world. Of course, I may be bias and therefore not a good opinion to listen too

The good thing about Alderaan, though, is that we don't really debate. We do, sort of, but it's usually just posting different views, like you said,
without any hard feelings. But if no one thinks it'll get deeper (about the mourning a musician you don't know thing), I won't mess with it.
