lucas only reluctantly acknowledged the EU. I doubt he would do far future although even I could get on board with that idea. It will be interesting to see
where he places this in the timeline although I have no idea of where to begin a guess.

^ I agree with X. Far future or even post ROTJ seems like a very slim possibility to me. I would bet Dark Times above
all. Interesting news though. I'd love it if they tackled something around the KotOR timeline. Preferably during a period of time when there's not much
in the way of canon already (well, if there is such a blank spot on the board anywhere).

I do somewhat agree with whomever questioned if the live-action series is ever going to happen. Part of that is because I really feel like Lucas has finally
found (in the new Clone Wars cartoon) the media he really wants to tell his stories in. The prequels got ever more and more computer generated, and the Clone
Wars series just takes that to the next level. So it's no surprise to me that at the very least, he plans to do more like this series.
And had corax not already mentioned it, I would have definately suggested it is highly likely to be a Bounty Hunter/Underworld-based series, likely set between episodes 3 and 4 (the Dark Times). Lucas has often shown interest in the Bounty Hunters and Smugglers, the Crime Lords and such - and I don't think this conflicts with his current plans for the live action series either. I'll also go so far as to open a few additional possibilities that might confirm this direction for the series - Boba Fett would likely be a main character - and that may also make sense of other things lingering in the background of the EU. Karen Traviss has a Boba Fett book planned - but was rather cagey about 'when' in the timeline the book would be set. Let's say it IS set around FotJ - but it has a flashback to connect it to the new animated series set in the Dark Times. The fact that she might be aware of that series, and might be called upon to help novelize it (especially considering her devotion to Fett, and her work on the Clone Wars) would certainly make sense. I give that to you to add fuel to the fire. Perhaps it's nothing, but perhaps there's a connection. For what it's worth, while I'm not trying to diss other ideas (and in fact would love to see some of them as animated series) I think the chances of almost anything else mentioned is almost nothing. New Jedi Order - highly highly unlikely (1% chance). KotoR era - a little more likely than NJO (2% chance). Distant future - a little more likely than the previous two (3% chance). Set during the timeframe of the movie series - highly likely (95% chance). When you reduce it down to that time period, you need to start considering two things - what still needs to be filled in, or what characters/race could support a series. For instance, Lucas has previously focused in on the Ewoks (both in a live action movie series and a cartoon), the Droids, and the Clone Wars. It seems to me the most unexplored area is the Dark Times, and there's lots of places he could focus the series during that era (Bounty Hunters, early Rebellion, the hunt for the remaining Jedi to name just a few). But either way, I'll gladly follow another animated series. I love the new Clone Wars, so I'll eagerly anticipate more information on this new series.

I hope the next aniamted series will feature Luke Skywalker's protege/padawan perhaps Luke's last padawan with Luke Skywalker as a recurring character
(with Mark Hamill doing the voice) set 50-60 years after ROTJ. If Lucas isn't doing to do the sequel trilogy he should do a Post-Jedi animated series with
an aging Luke as a Jedi Master living in Obi-Wan's hut on Tatooine with his protege as the lead hero or a Han Solo prequel series before ANH and deal with
how he met Chewie, his years in the Imperial Navy, how he won the Falcon from Lando, his adventures in the Corporate Sector, how he made the Kessel Run in the
Falcon in less than 12 parsecs. That would be definitely be cool to see in CGI/animation.

It's highly unlikely but I'd like one set even further forward than the legacy comics. I quite like the idea of the Imperial Knights and would like to
see them become Jedi again. That would take conflict both within character's hearts and over the universe itself.

The trilogy skips his time in the Navy and just mentions how he met chewie

Yes there were two trilogies of Han Solo books about this but it would be cool to see it in CGI animation especially the Kessel Run.

If Lucas did this series focused entirely on an adult audience with out putting in a bunch of crap like stupid droids and shallow plots, then I'd say this
is a winning idea. But if this is just going to be another Clone Wars show, he'll need to tread carefully. NJO would be a good place, or Old Sith Order,
maybe all the way back to the original schism, but anywhere else and it's too crowded. No more Clone Wars, no more Dark Times, and no squeezing it into the
Big Three's adventures between the OT movies. Personally I'd like to see them do a show on New Sith Wars period showing the Dark Underlord.
George Lucas Presents Star Wars: The Return of the Ewoks: How Jar-Jar Binks Found a New Home on Endor. And that would work too, only Jar-Jar would get eaten by one of those roaming giants and the Ewoks would go off on a crusade to slay the beast. While exploring, the Ewoks discover a ciminal organization trying to establish a base on Endor, run by a Hutt no less. This leads to the marriage of a Hutt Prince and an Ewok Princess...

I would jump out of my chair if it were a NJO/post-NJO series, but Lucasfilm/Lucasarts are so obsessed with their precious Clone Wars/Old Republic that the
chances of that happening are zilch

The chances of that happening are zilch anyway. Lucas is not going to go be beyond ROTJ. He's only said about a thousand times That that's where his
story ends.

My Dad suggusted that maybe since he won't do Post-ROTJ, what about Pre-TPM?

No. From personal experience I can state there's not enough fan interest in that era other than the war itself (this is a sad thing to me), and it's
certainly not profitable enough for a cartoon series.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. |
