The novelisation of Star Trek is wickedly awesome. Alan Dean Foster writes a boring-as-hell Star Wars novel, but his original titles and
movie novelisations are sublime. Which, ironically, includes A New Hope. But his novelisations of the first three Alien films are so OMG
bloody awesome. And the Trek novel is also ridiculously intelligent and flowing and memorable. Read the opening pages in which he equates the death of
a star (the supernova that the Kelvin combats the Nerada near) with the birth of Spock. Its Fcucking awesome.

A Room With a View by E. M. Forster.
Anecdote: I watched the movie of it (wonderful, by the way) the other night as I was flipping through the channels and, low and behold, the book was sitting on my bookshelf. My aunt gave it to me for Christmas eleven years ago

Reading Transformers: The Veiled Threat before I see the Transformers movie, than it on to No Prisoners.
Jaina realized with a cold shudder that Jacen had not failed. He had sacrificed everything-his name, his family, his reputation, his life- to unite the
galaxy. And now here Jaina was, watching the birth of a galaxywide league of worlds dedicated to working together in peace. Had Jacen won after all?

The MorganVille Vampire series. These are a lot of fun. I just finished book six and now I am going back to re-read the entire series. Similiar to Buffy I
guess but with a little more romance.
"Pride is pretty sneaky", Jacen warned. " It disguises itself pretty well. I hope you'll have a long talk with Uncle Luke at some point.
Unless you don't think even he has anything to teach you". Jacen Solo to his brother, Anakin Solo , Conquest pg.286

So I'm nearly done with Death Star, and am thinking of tackling the Coruscant Nights Trilogy next. I've not heard great things, but that's half of
the remaining 6 books on my shelf I haven't read. I'm at something like 110... actually gimme a sec...
113, not including Death Star. Not including anything below an adult novel... 96. the other 3 novels I have left to read are all clone wars (the first 2 republic commando books and the cestus deception) Ive yet to crack into FoTJ, but highly anticipating... But yes, any thoughts on the CN trilogy? |

Reading The Edge of the World. I honestly did not think KJA could equal/surpass his magnum opus in the Saga of Seven Suns. Like virtually any
political opponent facing down Leia in the Senate, I was proven wrong.
I am REALLY loving this book. |

Right now, I'd say I preferred Saga of the Seven Suns - but it's not entirely fair. That's seven books to compare to only one book. In some ways
the writing may be stronger in Edge of the World, but I like me some sweeping Space Opera. Still, as I said in my review for the column, I'd recommend Edge
of the World to anyone, it was an enjoyable read.

Thrawn, I can't comment on Coruscant Nights because I haven't read it, though I thought it was well liked on our boards. I personally thought Death
Star was nearly dreadful. On the other hand, I personally think you're in for a treat with the Republic Commando novels.
By the way, I'm currently reading the novelization of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, to be followed by The New Space Opera 2. Look for both of these in my next two A Galaxy Not So Far Away columns (posted Fridays) along with a surprise.

GAT - For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the CN books. The first is probably the best, and while the other two lag behind a bit in terms of sheer
craziness, they work as a well-contained trilogy for such an open and unexplored era.
As for me, Blaze is back on the bookshelf while I tackle this brochure-length Star Wars book, Omen. Ok ok, that's the last time I'm gonna tease the book for its appalling length, but I'm really stoked for it so I don't really care. I'm hungry for Star Warssssss. |

"Brochure-length." Heh. I'm going to shamelessly steal that for my forthcoming crazy-ass style review. Expect said review probably about the time
you are all reading the final book in the series.

I Am Legend. Not bad so far. I think it follows the Vincent Price version of the film most. Definitely worth reading.
