That's tremendous, Corax! That must have been so neat to watch. But it's also a credit to you and the time and effort you put into your kids.
Things like that don't just magically happen.
I'm glad wpm counts aren't part of the criteria for kids to pass in public school up here. My youngest would bomb. She'd a million times rather
be out with a basketball or leaping through the forest behind us with her lightsaber. Still, she's solid academically, speaks French with the best of
'em, and lives by her wits and common sense. Last June the kids brought home their end-of-year report cards. Kiddo ripped her envelope open, started
scrutinizing the papers .... silence ... silence ... and then put her hand on her hip, sighed and said "Well, I guess I wasn't fooling anybody. I
suppose I'll actually have to learn to read next year."
She dropped the report card on the table and ran outside to join up with friends. I picked up the papers and looked at them. Nearly straight As. Except
for English. That was a C+.

I had Candice reading by age 3. She knew the alphabet at 2. She can't remember a time when she couldn't just read. When she was in Kindergarten the
teacher thought it was wonderful that they could have her read the class a story and they would take turns sneaking out for a cigarette. I was there once to
pick her up and got there early. They called it "Candice Story Time" and all sat indian style in a circle around her while she read to them. She did
different voices for different characters and everything. I almost didn't fit through the door leaving with my chest puffed out that far. I miss those
days.
Good idea about the parents forum Myri. Perhaps at least a thread. Somewhere we can brag about/complain about our kids.

Don't ask me why. He was only two. Who can figure out a 2-yr-old's mental processes. BTW, that was the last time I ever bought a quart of milk. He couldn't lift the gallon containers. |

I was a fast reader too. I picked it up around the time your daughter did, rev. It got me a lot of girls in first grade.
Honestly, I think that the most integral component to an education is reading. You can get by without a good knowledge of math, science, or another language. But the ability to read is indispensable. And a passion for reading will take you far. I don't know how it happens, but when I have kids, I'm going to make sure that one of the first things they can do is read, because I attribute much of my success today to my love of the written word. ---The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. With my kids I have always read to them and they see me read all the time. Plus while my ex-wife was pregnant with each of them I read to them then as well.

Really! Learn about Wookies and other Aliens!?!? It states it as if they actually exist and I know most people know better but these are clearly books aimed at

Hey guys! I missed you all very much. The end of high school was such a hectic time for me, but as a college bound kid on summer vaca, i now might have some
time to occationally stop by!
So essentially I'll be hoppin on amap, and hope to talk to you all again. I must admit I haven't made much reading progress during this time, but I'm halfway through Death Star as we speak

Oh, Rev ... I'm sorry ... I'm sure you must have seen stars but ... OMG! I'm dyin' here! Uliah, you've always been one smart cookie! I wish I could have done something similar with eggs. Unfortunately ostrich eggs are hard to come by. The worst my kids ever woke me up with was a Mother's Day breakfast in bed. Every possible chiché that you could throw at this idea was on the breakfast tray. Including the cold, runny eggs (they made them first, then got busy with the rest of it.). For years afterwards, the easiest way to get me to vault out of bed at high speed is if I hear someone rattling about in my kitchen. Now, mercifully they are older. and my youngest makes breakfasts to die for. ... literally!! pile on the artery-clogging bacon, sausages .... but even I have to admit they're delicious!
