I don't think Luke is going to die until George Lucas does. Yes, he's dead in Legacy, but that gives us a century more or less as a time frame for
Luke's death. And you know what? They may never write the deaths of the Big Three. Just a reference (as in Legacy) to them being dead.

I just want Ben to die, and to be chopped to several pieces before it.
If
FotJ achieves that, I will be satisfied.
Otherwise... Christie Golden seems to have been active with Blizzard tie-in books: Warcraft, Starcraft. In my eyes, that's a step down from Star Trek books, and getting to write Star Wars would basically be going two steps up from those books she is currently writing. She seems too lightweight writer to me to get this "promotion". That's the only suspicious thing in the rumour for me. |

Oh, Ben has taken the place that first belonged to Anakin and then to Jacen. Anakin was my favoured character, and I learned to like Jacen as his replacement,
but killing Jacen was the last straw for me, and I want the character who is intended to take their place, Ben, to share their fate.
Just out of spite. An eye for an eye, an ear for an ear, death of a character
for the death of two characters.

For me, Anakin is my favorite, they killed him, and Jacen took his place. Unlike you, I don't like Jacen as Anakin's replacement at all, so I am happy
he is gone now. However, I do love that Ben has replaced Anakin's role and now I want him to rise to the top.
(Anyway, unless Ben has a son in a very young age, how could they kill him so soon?) Kevin's favorites as of 11 July 08:

Frankly I'm calling bullshit. I have no grounds by which to back that up, it just doesn't sound or sit right with me. I'm all for arcs, but I
want something of NJO caliber again - galactic wide affluence, massive number of books, and impressive communication and coordination.
And, as Kirr points out, any excitement I might be feeling (which is lackluster right now, although I can't exactly state why) is killed by the mention of Christine Golden. Golden was appointed the sole author of the Voyager relaunch series, she wrote four novels since 2001. The first was pretty good; the second was mediocre and started going down hill. The 3rd and 4th, I've never read because I'm so underwhelmed by the prospect and the reviews of the books are quite un-glowing. All of those were released by 2003 or so, and then we got nothing. Apparently she went off to work on her own original novel prospects. (And if what Rouge says is true about her writing lots of Blizzard tie-ins, then I have a *real* problem with her commitment levels to Trek.) I have a problem with that. Not that she wants to do her own work, but that she signed a contract and agreed to be the sole author of the relaunch series (for continuity purposes, no doubt; and because her Voyager books set *during* the series were actually not that bad). Now Pocket quietly has revoked that and appointed another author to the Voyager line and my excitement for those novels is only just starting to build thanks to how Golden killed my interest levels. And frankly... this'll get me persecuted on the boards, no doubt, I think Traviss is one of the freshest and original authors to grace Star Wars in years and I thought her escapades into the post-NJO world were some of her best writings and I want more.

Traviss is busy with the Clone Wars again, though.

Golden did publish several original novels after 2003 according to this bibliography and has written half a dozen Blizzard tie-ins in a few years, the next one, according
to Amazon, is a novel called "Arthas", coming up next spring.
I checked her web page, but it hasn't been updated since the end of last year. |

I checked her website too Rogue. It was a good thought.

(Though as pointed out above, I suppose with her Clone Wars work it's a
little more likely she doesn't have the time to be involved in the next LotF series).
Seriously though, I could think of half a dozen other authors I'd like to see return to Star Wars, and probably another half dozen new ones I'd rather DR brought in... but despite that, it's too early for me to say she's a 'bad' choice. As it stands, my feeling is her absense from Trek does lend some credence to this rumor - as the positive reaction from Sue to how LotF was pulled off (vs NJO) does the possibility of another 9 book series very similar in style to LotF. |

So... If Golden would happen to write Star Wars in the future, what would be her specialty? Which group, culture or characters would be her "pets"? I
think I have read one of her Star Trek books, but that's it, so I can't personally know what would be likely subject of special interest for her in
Star Wars....

Lots of Borg centric novels as I recall (not that that's so uncommon in the current Trek Lit program) - but I'm not sure what I'd relate that to in
SW. Stong female characters - Janeway, Seven, B'Lanna - which would speak well towards her writing Jaina, Leia, Tahiri, Mirta Gev, Tenel Ka, and maybe
Allana. Let's see, she forwarded the plot of the hologram 'insurrection' for lack of a better descriptor - so pitting heroes against each other due
to differences in philosophy is not out of the question.
Certainly both Allston and Denning (as well as Traviss herself) left enough open plot items that I could easily see any of them returning post LotF to pick up those threads. |

Bring back Zahn for the series. Have him be every third book, so that he gets the finale. Good chance it would be epic.

But Zahn doesn't like to do series with shared authors - as far as I recall - and he doesn't like how dark the books have been during DR's time.
These were the reasons why he wasn't ready to participate in NJO, as far as I remember...

But I think they are going to keep her busy writing elsewhere in the SW universe for awhile. But like acky said, I have a feeling this isn't true. I also don't have anything to back that statement up but this seems random and usually when "rumors" like thses pop up, other people have tidbits of info or they heard something as well. |

Well, when it comes to tidbits of info, I found something!
From Christie Golden's blog on June 11th: After Arthas, I get to start another project that, for the moment, is
I'm lucky to do what I do, and I know it.

I googled "secret project" and "Christie Golden" and found out that in June the WoW community thought that this "secret project"
was tied to then rumoured and now announced Diablo 3, that it would be a novelization of that game, but in the light of this rumour, the WoW people might have
been wrong in their assumption.

Okay I also googled "Christie Golden" and "secret project" and came up with essentially the same thing Rogue did. So I finally googled
"Christie Golden novels for 2009" and came up with this: http://blizzplanet.com/news/2169/ It basically says that Christie will be writing a World of
Warcraft trilogy for 2009. IDK for sure if this is her secret project or not but I'm more convinced she will stay involved with WoW rather than Star Wars.
EDIT: Okay dug a little deeper and found out that that report on the WoW trilogy was announced 7 days after Christie said she was working on a secret project. So it seems that this trilogy really is the secret project. At least for now.

Could well be... But another 3 WoW novels doesn't feel like a super secret thing - except if they are connected to the Lich King and information about them
could be considered spoilerish, in which case I understand it. And of course in her blog she is writing to an audience among whom many of them 3 more WoW
novels are a great thing.
