Still, thanks for the update. This is interesting.
I must admit I'm somewhat surprised Denning's not taking a break, if this is true. And that they're trying another 9-book series with 3 authors.

Until I (or someone who goes there more often, more likely) find confirmation on TOS or another official source, I'm treating this is a rumor.

If it's true, I demand better communication btwn authors. so we don't have to wait every 3 books for an advancement on a particular character! Even if
it means delaying the books.

Though it sounds a little bland, if this rumor is true, I would be exstatic to see Denning again! So happy they didn't have him go away. But I don't
know if this is true...no confirmation yet.

Ok, I'm going to analyze this news 'as if' it is true.
Fate of the Jedi is new 9-book-series that is set after Millennium Falcon.Certainly when I and most people are expecting it to be set (timeframe). 9 books sounds like they're going for another LotF type series. It will be written by Aaron Allston, Troy Denning and Christie Golden (author of Star Trek, Angel, Buffy, etc.).Aaron Allston always gets my vote. He's in the top tier of SW authors. I'm fine with Denning, though he's still not in the top tier for me. Now Christe Golden... hmm. I've read some of her Trek books (and I'm sure Nom and Acky are going to pop in at this point and talk about her trek work as well). I found her Trek stories to be good, but not great. I will say that she's been completely absent from Trek lit for some time, she was 'supposed' to be the sole author writing the Voyager relaunch - and after 4 books (about two years ago) she completely disappeared. THIS announcement might explain what happened to her, and because we know she's MIA from Trek, it's helping the possibility that this rumor is true. Still, I'm not jumping up and down for joy for her inclusion, but I've never been turned off by her writing either. The series will feature Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo, Ben Skywalker and Jaina Solo.Well, duh. If this is set post 'first' LotF series, it had better. Luke and Ben will be on a journey together and the other characters will stay at home and deal with the post-LOTF situation. Frankly, doesn't sound much different from the description of MF. What I'd like to see is these authors each writing their own trilogy - not interspersed as LotF was. But I gather from previous comments Sue has made that they liked the way LotF went (from a publishing standpoint in dealing with authors interspersed) so it's 'more' probable to get that again. |

I retract any earlier comments I made about not wanting a longer series of books and only a trilogy at the most. I love Allston, and yes I still like Denning
for anyone who thought different, so this does have potential to be a great series.
While I was critical of one book in LOTF, it doesn't take away that LOTF was an all around solid series soemthing and I believe that another series could work if this information is true. I don't think stand alone books are enough to finish telling the story of what heppened before the masacre at ossus occured. With that said, I will also remain skeptical of this until we have an official statement made by Sue or one of the other higher ups at DR. |

Either way would be good for me. Daala Count- 20 and counting and Hapans Rule All!

I still haven't found anything remotely close to confirming this
Nothing has been updated on Christie Golden's website for a while and nothing on her blogs anywhere close to mentioning Star Wars. But the search continues... |

If this is true (which I hope it is) then I want many things.
LOTF's story was great. Jacen falling brought personal drama that hadn't been achieved since Anakin's death. But I don't want anyone else to fall to the dark side; at least no one major. Please, not for awhile. But I think I speak for everyone when I say this. LOTS and LOTS of appearances by any and all characters. At least, all YJK, including the now MIA Zekk, and missing Raynar, both of whom need to come back. Force Ghost. If not an Anakin one, then Jacen. That'd be awesome. Fate Of The Jedi. This should forshadow the coming of the Sith at least. I want Jag to die! Okay, I know this is not going to happen, pretty much CAN'T happen, but I can dream.
More thoughts to come, no doubt. I tend to ramble with things like this. "The deeds of heroes send ripples spreading through the Force. Anakin's life continues to flow outward, touching and guiding those who have yet to hear his name. Most of us here use the Force-this young man embodied it." -Kyp Durron

I still can't find anything. No mention of a book 2 on Random House's website, no wookiepedia entry, nothing. Right now it doesn't really take
anything away from the rumor but sadly it doesn't really add anything either.
The one problem I have with it personally is that if this is when the series takes place will Del Rey be writing the final story-lines for some of our favorite characters? If Jaina and Jag get together and the IKs are started how many stories can be told before it ties Dark Horse's hands for Legacy? If Luke were to die in the series what author would handle writing that? And after the fallout of Invincble who would want to? |

There is no author who can be universally agreed upon to write Luke's death, so I would assume we would have 3 top-tier authors (Stover, Luceno,
Zahn/Stackpole, imo) to kill off the remaining three. However, they let a relative newbie write Mara's death, so maybe not.

I wouldn't mind seeing Stover handle Luke's death. I think he could add a touch of mind-bending drama to the scene that other authors couldn't
achieve.

However, they let a relative newbie write Mara's death, so maybe not.Even though Mara was a huge player IU, comapred to Luke, where even people who don't read or even like SW, knows who he is. The scope, and coverage, of his death will be huge. Becasue I don't want to think of Luke dying at the moment, I cannot even say what author I would want to write his death. But I do know, that I don't want it to be allston. As much as I bow at his alter now, I think another SW writer, one who writes a spectacualr luke, would need to be the one to do it. Because nothing else has been found on this rumor, can we say it is safe to assume, for now, that DR has no intention of announcing any future plans for post MF? |
