Avatar and the Star Wars Effect

I haven't had the opportunity to see Avatar yet (we're both on vacation next week, so we opted to wait for the Monday matinee at the nearest IMAX theater). However, the reviews, blogs and related articles I've been reading and the countless SW references contained therein have me wondering: is it possible for this film, or any film, to produce the same effect that George Lucas created with Star Wars?

Ok, there's a lot of assumptions here, so follow closely.

Assume you have access to a time machine. Assume that DVDs will still be around in... let's say five years. Stargate Universe starts tonight at 9 on SyFy (<--- still feels silly to type SyFy). Who else is psyched? I am a huge SG fan. This is one I will watch from the beginning, even though I am recording it, so I can absorb what is going on during the commercials. This is supposed to be an edgier and sexier Stargate too. Due to the shocking lack of a thread for one of the best shows on TV, I decided to make one. I recently discovered this show during the summer and am hooked on it. Will buy the first 6 seasons eventually.

I did see the epic season premiere (You have 30 seconds to live.) and yesterday's episode (awesome). And will watch the whole season. Still debating about LA though.

I am the only one watching? I meant to watch the preview pilot back in the spring, missed it, and kept forgetting to watch it now, but since the amazing Kristin Chenoweth is on next week, I finally forced myself to get caught up; the intention was to put the eps on my iPod to watch on a long marching band bus ride tomorrow, but I couldn't resist watching the first ep.

I searched the first 6 or so pages and couldn't find a thread for the CW's SUPERNATURAL, which I think is a great show. If there is an existing thread for this, pls redirect me and delete this one.

Wow. Turned out to be really good. I won't go into spoilers, but it was more than just a children's movie, and I'd suggest it to anyone.

There was also a veiled SW reference so slight at first I thought it was coincidence, but then later something happened to make me sure of it.
There was a scene where there were three figher planes and they used the designations "Grey 1", "Grey 2", and "Grey 3", which screamed to me, SW, but I couldnt...
